Chapter 1
1-8 The apostle Paul salutes the Colossians, and blesses
God for their faith, love, and hope.
9-14 Prays for their fruitfulness in spiritual knowledge.
15-23 Gives a glorious view of Christ.
24-29 And sets out his own character, as the apostle
of the Gentiles.
Chapter 2
1-7 The apostle expresses his love to, and joy in believers.
8-17 He cautions against the errors of heathen philosophy;
also against Jewish traditions, and rites which had been fulfilled in Christ.
18-23 Against worshipping angels; and against legal ordinances.
Chapter 3
1-4 The Colossians exhorted to be heavenly-minded;
5-11 to mortify all corrupt affections;
12-17 to live in mutual love, forbearance, and forgiveness;
18-25 and to practise the duties of wives and husbands,
children, parents, and servants.
Chapter 4
1 Masters to do their duty towards servants.
2-6 Persons of all ranks to persevere in prayer, and
Christian prudence.
7-9 The apostle refers to others for an account of his
affairs.
10-18 Sends greetings; and concludes with a blessing.
