ATLANTA (TICKER) -- The surging Atlanta Braves swept a homestand of at least seven games for the first time since relocating from Milwaukee in 1966 with a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Braves stretched their overall winning streak to 10 games and set a club record with their 11th straight win at home. Atlanta completed a 9-0 homestand and improved to 13-2 at Turner Field this season. The Milwaukee Braves swept seven-game homestands in 1963 and 1965. Atlanta has played 15 of its first 21 games at home, but 13 of the next 16 contests are on the road. Terry Mulholland (3-2) surrendered just one run and five hits over seven innings and Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer for the Braves, who matched their longest winning streak since August 19-29 of last season. "It's so hard to put together streaks like this in this day and age," Jones said. "You're always going to run into someone's ace who might stick it to you. We tread on some thin ice, but things seem to be working out for us."
Mulholland posted his third straight victory, allowing only a solo homer to Kevin Elster in the seventh. He walked two and struck out five. After losing his first two starts, the veteran lefthander has been dominant in his last three, allowing just four runs over 24 innings for an ERA of 1.50. "I'm really happy with the one pitch, the two-seamer," Mulholland said. "It's been very effective for me. Overall, I'm really happy with my stuff." "We couldn't get a hit when we needed it," Dodgers manager Davey Johnson added. "He didn't give in to anybody. You have to tip your hat to good pitching." Kerry Ligtenberg surrendered a two-run homer to Eric Karros in the eighth inning. John Rocker struck out the side in the ninth after loading the bases with no outs to earn his fourth save. Rocker started the inning by giving up a single to Shawn Green and walking Gary Sheffield and Karros, but he came back to strike out Adrian Beltre, Chad Kreuter and Elster. Rocker's adventures on the mound did not thrill his teammates. "He's giving us a heart attack," Jones said. "I'd like for him to come in ready to go. It takes a couple of batters for him to get locked in, but he got the job done, bottom line, no harm, no foul." "I spent a few years with Mitch Williams in Philadelphia," Mulholland added. "When he came in the game, (Phillies pitching coach) Johnny Padres and I would look at each other and open our palms like it's out of our hands. I'm not gonna get any more gray hairs over it." After committing two errors in the top of the sixth, Jones chased Chan Ho Park (3-2) with his homer in the bottom of the frame that traveled 444 feet and gave the Braves a 6-0 lead. Park, battling a blister on his pitching hand, allowed eight hits and matched a career high by walking seven over 5 1/3 innings. "It was a little tough concentrating," Park said. "I pitched a lot of pitches. I couldn't throw a good curve ball today and I couldn't think too much about the blister." Park struggled from the start as Quilvio Veras and Andruw Jones singled before Chipper Jones walked to load the bases with no outs in the first. After Wally Joyner struck out, Brian Jordan walked to force in a run, but Park avoided further trouble by getting Javy Lopez to ground into a double play. Atlanta took a 2-0 lead in the second, when Andruw Jones led off with a double, took third on a passed ball and scored on Chipper Jones' groundout. After Mulholland pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the sixth, the Braves broke it open in the bottom half. The Dodgers have lost four straight since scoring 36 runs in a
three-game sweep at Cincinnati.
