플레이오프를 향한 간절한 꿈은 강력한 리그 MVP 후보인 '괴물' 블라드미르 게레로에 의해 산산조각이 났다.　 

최고 시속 95마일(약 153㎞)에 투심 패스트볼과 커브 등의 구위가 괜찮았지만 게레로와의 승부에서 3타수 3안타(홈런 1개 포함)로 무너진 것이 그대로 승부와 연결된 것. 게레로가 3차례 모두 2사후 타석에 들어섰다는 점에서 아쉬움은 더욱 컸다.　 

박찬호는 1회초 2사후 게레로에게 몸쪽 93마일(약 150㎞)짜리 직구를 통타당하며 좌월 1점홈런을 내줬다. 3회 2사후에는 2번 트로이 글로스를 볼넷으로 내보낸 뒤 게레로에게 다시 우중월 2루타를 얻어맞아 스코어는 0-2.　 

4회 1사 1·2루 위기를 외야플라이와 헛스윙 삼진으로 돌파하며 두 주먹을 불끈 쥐었던 박찬호는 끝내 5회에 무너졌다. 
　 
2사후 게레로에게 좌전안타를 내준 뒤 4번 개럿 앤더슨에게 우중월 2점홈런을 허용한 것. 4점차에 상심한 듯 평점심을 잃은 박찬호는 5번 제프 다바논을 스트레이트 볼넷으로 내보낸 뒤 존 와스딘으로 교체됐다. 투구수는 94개(스트라이크 51개).　 

게레로는 6회 바뀐 투수 와스딘에게 좌월 3점홈런을 뿜어내는 등 이날 5타수 4안타 5타점의 괴력을 발휘했다. 반면 텍사스 타선은 단 3안타만 뽑아내는 데 그쳐 맥빠진 패배의 또 다른 원인을 제공했다.　 

박찬호는 시즌 마지막 경기인 4일 원정 시애틀전에 선발 등판할 계획이다. 

텍사스 PS진출 경우의 수…전승땐 공동1위 
 
기적은 일어날 수 있을까. 
　 
텍사스의 포스트시즌 진출은 수치상 불가능하지는 않지만, 기적에 가까운 대반전이 있어야만 가능하다. 
　 
29일(이하 한국시간) 현재 86승71패의 텍사스는 아메리칸리그 서부지구 공동 1위 오클랜드·애너하임(이상 89승68패)에 3게임 뒤져있다. 
　 
남은 경기는 3개팀 모두 5게임씩 .오클랜드나 애너하임 중 어느 한팀이 3승 이상만 거둔다면 텍사스는 그대로 탈락한다. 
　 
전승을 거두더라도 지구 단독 1위는 불가능하다. 오클랜드와 애너하임이 10월2일부터 시즌 마지막 3연전을 맞대결로 치르기 때문에 두팀 모두 동반 몰락하는 경우가 발생할 수는 없다. 천신만고 끝에 공동 1위에 오르더라도 별도의 결정전이라는 관문이 기다리고 있다. 
　 
공동 1위를 할 수 있는 방법도 간단치 않다. 무조건 전승을 한 뒤 오클랜드가 남은 시애틀과의 2경기에서 모두 져야 한다. 이후 오클랜드와 애너하임의 맞대결에서 싹쓸이 팀이 나오지 않을 경우에만 가까스로 공동 1위가 확보된다. 이런 시나리오중 하나만 어긋나도 텍사스의 탈락은 확정된다.

0...29일(한국시간) 텍사스 레인저스와 애너하임 에인절스의 경기가 벌어진 알링턴은 한국의 가을과 흡사했다. 

이날 알링턴은 경기 시작 직전 기온이 26℃였고 해가 진 후 기온은 더욱 낮아진데다 시원한 바람마저 부는 등 전혀 텍사스 답지 않은 날씨 속에 경기가 치러졌다.

0...박찬호는 이날 1회 애너하임 3번 타자 블라디미르 게레로에게 솔로 홈런을 허용해 복귀 후 최근 6경기 연속 홈런을 허용. 

특히 게레로는 애너하임에서 벌어진 18일 경기에서도 5회 박찬호를 상대로 솔로홈런을 터뜨렸었다.

0...복귀 후 6경기에서 로드 바라하스와 배터리를 이뤘던 박찬호는 이날 처음으로 제럴드 레어드와 호흡을 맞췄다. 

박찬호는 레어드와 배터리를 이뤄 4월17일 시애틀 마리너스전에서 승리투수가 되는 등 전날까지 올시즌 3경기에서 1승1패 방어율 3.72를 기록.

0...박찬호는 2회 1사 후 벤지 몰리나에게 볼넷을 허용하며 연속 이닝 무사사구를 8이닝으로 마감했다. 

박찬호는 24일 시애틀전에서 5이닝을 무사사구로 경기하는 등 17일 애너하임전 4회부터 사사구를 내주지 않았으나 이날 4.2이닝 동안 3개의 볼넷을 허용했다.

박찬호는 29일(한국시간) 아메리퀘스트필드에서 벌어진 애너하임 에인절스전에 선발로 등판해 4.2이닝 동안 홈런 2개를 포함해 6안타 4볼넷 3탈삼진에 4실점으로 무너졌다. 시즌 3승7패에 방어율은 5.89로 올라갔다. 

올 시즌 애너하임전 4연패로 유난히 약한 모습을 보였다. 모두 94개의 공을 던져 스트라이크 51개. 최고 구속은 153㎞를 찍었다. 텍사스는 이날 패배로 아메리칸리그 서부지구 2위 애너하임에 3게임차로 뒤지며 사실상 플레이오프 진출의 꿈을 접었다. 

1회 2사서 블라디미르 게레로에게 빠른 직구로 승부하다 솔로 홈런을 맞은 게 아쉬웠다. 2회는 실점없이 잘 넘겼으나 3회 2사서 트로이 글로스를 볼넷으로 출루시킨 후 다시 게레로에게 우중간을 가르는 2루타를 맞아 2-0으로 뒤졌다. 4회에도 안타와 볼넷으로 2사 1·2루의 위기를 맞은 그는 숀 피긴스를 삼진으로 잡아 불을 껐다. 그러나 공 끝의 위력이 사라지고 제구력마저 흔들리면서 투구수가 계속 늘어나 결국 5회 2사 1루서 개럿 앤더슨에게 중월 2점홈런을 내준 뒤 마운드를 내려왔다. 

최근 3연패로 뒷심 부족을 보인 텍사스는 플레이오프 진출의 실낱같은 희망이 걸린 경기에서 애너하임 선발인 켈빔 에스코바르의 호투에 눌려 단 3안타의 빈공에 허덕인 끝에 8-2로 패했다. 
 
찬호 "할 말이 뭐가 있겠나" 
 
할 말이 뭐가 있겠나. 오늘 구위는 좋았고 직구, 싱커, 커브 다 괜찮았다. 블라디미르 게레로에게 계속해서 3안타를 맞은 게 화를 불렀다. 게레로와의 개인 통산 성적이 지금까지 나쁘지 않았다 해도 상대적인 것이다. 메이저 리그에서 그만큼 잘치는 타자도 드물다. 5회 개럿 앤더슨에게 홈런을 맞은 다음에는 집중력이 흐트러졌다. 볼넷을 4개나 내주기는 했어도 큰 문제는 아니었다고 본다. 홈런이 문제였다. 오늘 패배로 팀의 플레이오프 진출이 힘들어져 정말 아쉽다. 

Anaheim (89-68) returned to top of the AL West in a tie with Oakland for the first time since June 8 after the Athletics lost 7-4 later Tuesday night to Seattle. The Rangers (86-71) are three games back with five to play. 

``This thing can change momentum in a heartbeat. There's no reason to put too much stock in where we are,'' manager Mike Scioscia said. ``The challenge is in front of us, and the opportunity is in front of us also.'' 

The Angels never trailed Texas after Guerrero's two-out solo homer in the first. It was 8-0 after his 36th homer, a three-run shot in the sixth. 

``I'm not trying to win the MVP. I'm trying to play every day to win a championship,'' Guerrero said. 
 
``Right now, obviously his stroke of driving the ball is re-emerging, and that's great to see. It's a great time to see it,'' Scioscia said. ``He's been about as consistent as any player I've seen from start to finish.'' 

Guerrero also had a homer and a double in the Angels' 5-3 win on Monday night to start the series at Texas. 

``I don't think he has much of an approach at the plate. He just goes out there and swings,'' said Angels starter Kelvin Escobar, the beneficiary Tuesday. ``I don't think you can do much against him. You can make him look stupid on one pitch, and he'll hit it out of the park on the next pitch.'' 

Escobar (11-12) allowed just two runs on three hits over six innings to win for the first time in four starts against Texas this season. He struck out three and walked one. 

Garret Anderson and Dallas McPherson also homered for the Angels, who have two games left in Texas before a season-ending three-game series in Oakland.

Texas, the surprise contender after four straight last-place finishes, has lost four of five since sweeping three games from the Athletics last week. 

``The chances are remote, but we still have a chance,'' shortstop Michael Young said. 
 
``We're not going to give in. It's late in the season, and we're still grinding,'' manager Buck Showalter said. ``In a couple of days, we all might be surprised as to what's happened.'' 

Guerrero, hitting .333 in his first Anaheim season after spending his first seven seasons in Montreal, has 121 RBIs and 120 runs. Don Baylor is the only other Angel with 120 RBIs and 120 runs -- in 1979, when he drove in 139 runs and scored 120 as the AL MVP. 

The Angels led 1-0 after Guerrero homered in the first off Chan Ho Park (3-7). After Troy Glaus drew a two-out walk in the third, Guerrero drove him home with a double. 

Guerrero had a two-out single in the fifth and scored on Anderson's 14th homer. 

McPherson led off the sixth against John Wasdin with his third homer -- the only Angels run not scored with two outs. Guerrero homered again after Chone Figgins singled and Darin Erstad walked. 

``He's got about as big a happy zone as I've seen on a player,'' Scioscia said. ``The home runs are starting to re-emerge. Although we're built around more than waiting for Vladie to hit home runs, when it happens, it's important.'' 

It was the third multihomer game this season for Guerrero, and 22nd in his career. His night at the plate ended with an eighth-inning flyout. 

Park, 0-3 with a 6.55 in six September starts, gave up four runs on six hits over 4 2-3 innings. He walked four. 

``Chan Ho wasn't sharp enough to be facing a team like this,'' Showalter said. 

Escobar was pitching on three days' rest for the third time in his career. He had allowed nine earned runs in just 5 1-3 innings combined the first two times, but had the Rangers mostly befuddled after a leadoff walk. 

After Kevin Mench's two-out single in the second, Escobar retired 10 straight through the fifth. 

Gerald Laird hit Escobar's first pitch in the sixth for his first homer. Eric Young followed with a double and scored on Michael Young's groundout.

Park has allowed 22 homers in 88 2-3 innings, and Wasdin has given up 18 homers in 61 1-3 innings. ...
