얼굴에 138km 직구 맞는 순간 시속 138㎞의 직구를 얼굴에 맞으면 어떻게 될까. 생각만으로도 끔찍한 일이다. 공이 얼굴을 강타한 순간을 잡은 '충격의 사진'이 최근 일본의 스포츠신문 <도쿄스포츠>에 실렸다. 지난 15일 한신 외야수 아카호시의 사구 장면으로, 얼굴에 맞고 튕겨나간 공이 앵글에 잡혔을 만큼 타이밍이 절묘했다.

히로시마의 좌완 기쿠치하라의 공에 얼굴을 맞은 아카호시는 관중이 토끼눈이 된 가운데 땅바닥에 쓰러졌다가는 얼마되지 않아 몸을 툭툭 털고 일어나 1루로 걸어나갔다. 다행히 아카호시의 뼈에는 이상이 없었다.

주심은 위협구로 판단, 기쿠치하라에게 즉각 퇴장을 명령했지만 히로시마 벤치는 1루로 씩씩하게 걸어나가는 아카호시를 보고는 "직격탄이었다면 안면 골절이 됐을 텐데 어떻게 저럴 수가 있느냐. 분명히 팔에 맞고 튕긴 것이다"며 퇴장 조치에 거세게 반발했다. 아카호시는 다음날 경기에서도 선발로 출전했다.
