텍사스 레인저스 박찬호(32)가 또 다시 '천적' 오클랜드에 당했다. 

박찬호는 25일(이하 한국시간) 아메리퀘스트필드에서 벌어진 오클랜드와의 홈경기에서 3⅓이닝 9안타 6실점으로 난타당하며 패전투수가 됐다. 탈삼진 3개, 볼넷 2개를 기록했고, 방어율은 5.33에서 5.66으로 나빠졌다.

이로써 박찬호의 시즌 성적은 8승5패가 됐고, 지난 7일 홈 보스턴전에서 패한 이후 3연패를 기록했다. 

박찬호가 3⅓이닝만에 마운드를 물러난 것은 올시즌 2번째로 빨리 강판된 것이다. 박찬호는 지난달 22일 원정 LA 에인절스전에서 1이닝 10안타 8실점을 기록한 바 있다. 

박찬호는 이날 패전으로 올시즌 오클랜드와의 4경기에서 3패를 기록했고, 4경기 방어율은 11.07로 참담하다. 아울러 LA 다저스 시절이던 98년 6월10일 이후 오클랜드전 12차례 등판에서 8연패라는 치욕적인 기록도 남겼다. 

박찬호는 매이닝 선두타자를 출루시키며 위기를 자초했고, 2회를 제외하고는 적시타를 맞는 등 위기관리능력을 발휘하지 못했다. 

출발부터 좋지 않았다. 박찬호는 1회 투구수가 30개(스트라이크 21개)나 됐고, 33.3도의 무더운 날씨속에 치러진 낮경기에서 체력낭비가 심했다. 

1회 오클랜드 1번 마크 엘리스에 중전안타를 맞은 박찬호는 1사 1루에서 3번 바비 크로스비에 우익선상 2루타를 허용하며 첫 실점했고, 이어진 2사 3루에서 스콧 하테스버그에 중전적시타를 맞아 2점째를 내줬다. 

박찬호는 2회 들어 제모습을 찾는 듯 했다. 

선두타자 7번 댄 존슨에 볼넷을 내줬지만 8번 닉 스위셔를 중견수플라이로 잡았고, 9번 애덤 멜러스와 1번 마크 엘리스를 연속 삼진으로 돌려세웠다. 멜러스는 시속 81마일(130.3㎞)짜리 낙차 큰 파워커브에 헛스윙 삼진을 당했고, 엘리스는 가운데에서 예리하게 떨어진 시속 82마일(132㎞) 슬라이더에 꼼짝없이 당했다. 

살아난듯 했던 박찬호는 3회 들어 흔들렸다. 선두타자 2번 마크 캇세이에 중견수 넘기는 2루타를 허용한 뒤 계속된 2사 3루에서 5번 스콧 하테스버그에 우전적시타를 맞아 1점을 더 허용했다. 

박찬호는 3-1로 앞선 4회 선두타자 7번 댄 존슨에 우익선상 2루타를 맞으며 크게 흔들였고, 볼넷을 내주며 초래한 1사 1·2루의 위기에서 연속 3안타를 허용해 2점을 더 허용했다. 

박찬호는 1-5로 뒤진 1사 만루에서 강판됐고, 마운드를 이어받은 존 와스딘이 에릭 차베스에 희생플라이를 허용해 박찬호의 실점은 6점이 됐다. 

텍사스는 3-8로 졌다.

텍사스 박찬호(32)에게 오클랜드는 이날도 넘기 어려운 '높은 벽'이었다. 

오클랜드 타자들은 마치 박찬호의 투구를 궤뚫어보는 듯 했다. 덤비지 않고, 박찬호의 실투를 포착하며 예리하게 공격했다. 

오클랜드 타자들은 스트라이크존을 조금씩 벗어나는 박찬호의 투심패스트볼과 체인지업, 슬라이더에 속지 않았다. 대신 가운데로 몰리는 공과 높게 들어오는 공을 효과적으로 공략하며 박찬호의 힘을 뺐다. 

오클랜드 타자들이 박찬호를 상대로 뽑아낸 안타는 거의 모두 방망이 중심에 제대로 맞은 라인드라이브 타구였다. 

이날 오클랜드 선발 타선은 스위치히터 2명을 포함해, 왼쪽타석에 들어선 타자가 6명이었다. 

그러나 박찬호는 왼손타자의 바깥쪽으로 휘며 떨어지는 투심패스트볼과 체인지업이 제대로 먹혀들지 않았다. 대부분 스트라이크존 경계선에 걸치지 못해 왼손타자를 상대로 위력을 발휘하지 못했다. 또한 오클랜드 오른손타자들은 스트라이크존의 바깥쪽 아래를 벗어난 공을 골라내면서 높게 들어오는 공을 놓치지 않고 방망이 중심에 맞혔다. 

박찬호는 1회 1사 1루에서 오른손타자 3번 바비 크로스비에 가운데 약간 높게 들어간 밋밋한 변화구를 던져 우익선상 2루타를 얻어맞으며 첫 실점했다. 

박찬호는 3회 왼손선두타자인 2번 마크 캇세이에 중견수 뒤로 넘어가는 2루타를 맞은 공 역시 가운데 높게 들어간 실투였다. 선두타자에 2루타를 맞은 박찬호는 계속된 2사 3루에서 역시 왼손타자인 5번 스콧 하테버그에 몸쪽으로 정면승부를 걸다 우전적시타를 허용하며 힘이 빠졌다. 

박찬호가 4회에 맥없이 무너져버린 원인을 제공했던 4회 선두타자 7번 댄 존슨과의 대결도 아쉬운 대목. 

박찬호는 왼손타자인 존슨에게 브레이크가 걸리지 않은 브레이킹볼을 가운데로 던져 우익선상 2루타를 허용했다. 

김이 샌 박찬호는 결국 계속된 1사 1·2루에서 1·2·3번타자에 내리 3안타를 허용했고, 마운드를 내려올 수밖에 없었다.

-날씨가 경기하는데 어렵지 않았나. 

▲덥긴 했지만 경기에 지장을 받지는 않았다. 컨디션도 괘찮았다. 

-패인을 분석한다면. 

▲투스트라이크를 잡은 이후 투심패스트볼의 제구력이 좋지 않았다. 특히 3명의 타자에게 투스트라이크 이후 던진 투심패스트볼이 안타로 연결된 것이 문제가 됐다. 

-최근 승수를 쌓지 못하고 있다. 불만스럽지 않은가.

과연 해답은 없는가. 

이번에 투스트라이크 이후의 성급한 승부가 화를 불렀다. 

텍사스 레인저스 벅 쇼월터 감독은 박찬호가 25일 오클랜드 애슬레틱스와의 경기에서 패전 투수가 된 이후 성급한 승부를 패인으로 꼽았다. 

쇼월터 감독은 "구위나 제구력이나 평소보다 날카롭지 않았다"고 지적한 뒤 "볼카운트를 유리하게 이끌지 못했고 투스트라이크를 잡은 뒤에는 곧바로 승부를 벌이다 안타를 맞았다"고 박찬호의 패인을 분석했다. 

그동안 박찬호는 오클랜드전에서 투스트라이크를 잡아놓고 유인구를 구사하다 상대 타자를 유인하는데 실패, 어려운 경기를 펼쳤다. 

25일 경기에서는 지난 20일 뉴욕 양키스전과 마찬가지로 과감하고 빠른 승부를 펼쳤다. 

투스트라이크를 잡으면 곧바로 정면승부를 펼쳤으나 고비마다 안타를맞았고 결국 조기 강판의 원인이 되고 말았다. 

쇼월터 감독은 "하든을 끈질기게 물고 늘어져 많은 주자를 내보냈지만 고비마다 삼진을 당하고 범타로 물러나 기회를 살리지 못했다"고 공격 부진을 아쉬워하기도 했다. [알링턴=연합뉴스] 
 

Scott Hatteberg drove in three runs, and the streaking A's finished a four-game sweep of the Texas Rangers with an 8-3 victory Sunday.  

Bobby Crosby and Mark Ellis each had three hits to help the A's extend their winning streak to six. After going 6-20 in May, they've won 26 of their last 32 to tie Minnesota for the wild-card lead and build a 4 1/2 -game edge over the Rangers for second place in the AL West.  

``A lot of people doubted we could do this,'' said Crosby, who also made a diving catch with his back to the plate in short left field to end the fourth. ``It took us a while. But I'm not shocked by this. To come here and take four, I'm pretty impressed with how we're playing.''  

Texas lost its fifth straight and fell to 2-9 since the All-Star break, completing a 1-6 homestand. The Rangers, who've dropped seven of eight to the A's since the break, dipped under .500 (48-49) for the first time since they were 13-14 on May 2.  

``This homestand definitely wasn't nice to us,'' shortstop Michael Young said. ``We have a lot of room to make up. There's two months to play. But we're a lot of games back now and that's a fact, so we can't be afraid to admit that.''  
  
Rich Harden (8-4) wasn't nearly as dominant as his last start against Texas, but he was good enough to win. He allowed three runs and five hits in 5 1-3 innings, striking out five and walking four. The right-hander threw 111 pitches in temperatures that reached the mid-90s.

In his previous outing against the Rangers on July 14, Harden carried a perfect game into the eighth and threw a two-hitter in a 6-0 victory.  

``I didn't have my command early,'' said Harden, who is 2-1 with a 1.54 ERA in three starts against Texas this season. ``But at the end I thought I was close to normal. I'm used to the heat. That didn't bother me. My mechanics were just off early.''  

The A's have received contributions from several sources during this streak. After Harden exited, Joe Kennedy and Justin Duchscherer combined to pitch 3 2-3 innings of two-hit relief.  

``I'm enjoying the way the players are going at it, the fever pitch at which they're playing,'' A's manager Ken Macha said. ``In this era of high-dollar players, we've played as a team and that's the fun part of it.''  

Oakland jumped on Chan Ho Park (8-5) in the first, using Crosby's RBI double and Hatteberg's run-scoring single for a 2-0 edge.  

Rangers center fielder Gary Matthews Jr., who drove in three runs, helped the A's in the first when he caught a one-out fly off the bat of Eric Chavez and, thinking it was the third out, flipped the ball to left fielder David Dellucci. Crosby tagged up at second, advanced to third, and scored on Hatteberg's line-drive single.  
  
Texas made it 2-1 in the second when Harden walked Matthews with the bases loaded, but Harden escaped further damage when he got Sandy Alomar to hit into a double play.  

Oakland extended its lead to 3-1 in the third on Hatteberg's RBI single.  

The A's broke the game open in the fourth, chasing Park with run-scoring singles by Ellis and Mark Kotsay.  

``Chan Ho was not very sharp,'' Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. ``It's kind of been the case for us for a while. Too many two-strike mistakes. All our pitchers ... we haven't been making quality pitches when we're ahead in the count. We paid the price.''  

Park left the bases loaded, and Chavez's sacrifice fly off John Wasdin made it 6-1.  

Park allowed six runs and nine hits over 3 1-3 innings.  

``We got some good pitches to hit out over the plate from Chan Ho and we were able to take advantage,'' Kotsay said.

Rangers slugger Mark Teixeira was given a break from the heat, serving as the DH for the second time this season. Adrian Gonzalez, recalled from the minors on Saturday, got the start at first base in place of Teixeira, who went 1-for-4. Gonzalez went 2-for-3. ... LF Kevin Mench was out of Texas' starting lineup because of a bone bruise on his right hand, but he entered as a pinch-hitter in the sixth. ... Park is 1-8 with a 7.00 ERA in 13 career starts against Oakland. ... Crosby has 16 RBIs against Texas this season.
