박찬호는 17일(한국시간) 펫코파크에서 벌어진 홈 샌프란시스코전에서 5⅓이닝 동안 홈런 2개를 포함해 5안타 3탈삼진 3볼넷 3실점했다.

박찬호는 팀이 4-3으로 앞선 6회초 1사 만루에서 불펜투수 클라 메레디스로 교체됐다. 메레디스는 후속타자 셰이 힐랜브랜드를 헛스윙 삼진, 토드 그린을 유격수 플라이로 처리해 박찬호의 승리요건을 지켜줬다. 

그러나 샌디에이고는 4-3으로 앞선 8회 포수 마이크 피아자의 2루 악송구가 빌미가 돼 1점을 내주며 동점을 허용해 박찬호의 승리가 날아갔다. 

이로써 박찬호는 시즌 7승7패로 제자리 걸음을 했고, 방어율은 4.66에서 4.68로 조금 나빠졌다. 투구수는 85개(스트라이크 44개)였다. 

이날 박찬호는 3회부터 공이 높게 컨트롤된 탓에 다소 불안한 피칭을 이어갔다. 5⅓이닝동안 플라이볼 아웃(8개)이 땅볼 아웃(5개)보다 많았던 이유도 여기에 있다. 

박찬호 1회초를 3자범퇴로 힘차게 시작했다. 박찬호는 선두타자 랜디 윈을 2루땅볼, 2번타자 오마 비스켈을 유격수 땅볼, 3번 모이세즈 알루를 낙차 큰 커브로 헛스윙 삼진으로 잡았다. 

샌디에이고는 1회말 브라이언 자일스의 우월솔로포로 선취점을 낚았지만 박찬호가 2회초 선두타자 본즈에 우월솔로홈런을 맞아 1-1 동점을 허용했다. 

박찬호는 본즈를 상대로 풀카운트에서 6구째 가운데 낮은 89마일(143.2㎞) 투심패스트볼을 뿌렸지만 본즈가 제대로 걷어올려 담장을 넘겼다. 본즈의 시즌 16호이자 통산 724호 홈런. 
본즈에게 통산 8번째 홈런을 허용한 박찬호는 후속타자 3명을 삼진 1개와 외야플라이 2개로 처리했다. 

샌디에이고는 2회말 조시 바필드의 희생플라이로 2-1로 앞섰지만 박찬호가 3회초 선두타자 토드 그린에게 좌월 솔로홈런을 맞아 다시 2-2 동점이 됐다. 

샌디에이고 타선은 3회 벤 존슨의 1점홈런, 4회 마크 벨혼의 1점홈런으로 박찬호에게 힘을 실어줬다. 박찬호도 4회 4,5,6번타자를 3자범퇴시켰고, 5회를 1안타 무실점으로 잘 막았다. 

박찬호는 그러나 4-2로 앞선 6회 들어 흔들렸고, 결국 중도하차했다. 

선두타자 오마 비스켈에 중전안타를 허용한 박찬호는 모이세즈 알루에게 볼넷을 내줘 무사 1,2루의 위기를 맞았다. 이어 본즈를 우익수플라이로 처리하며 1사 1,3루가 됐고, 레이 더램에게 오른쪽 깊은 2루타를 맞아 1점을 내줬다. 

계속된 1사 2,3루에서 박찬호는 마크 스위니를 고의4구로 내보낸 뒤 메레디스로 교체됐다. 

샌디에이고는 4-3으로 앞선 8회초 3번째 투수 스콧 라인브링크가 샌프란시스코 선두타자 모이세즈 알루에게 좌전안타를 허용하며 위기를 맞았다. 이어진 1사 1루에서 알루의 2루 도루와 포수 마이크 피아자의 악송구로 1사 3루가 된 상황에서 레이 더햄의 1루땅볼로 1점을 내줬다.

Rookie Eliezer Alfonzo singled in Ray Durham with the go-ahead run with two outs in the 13th inning, and the Giants beat the slumping Padres 7-5 on Wednesday night.

Bonds hit his 724th career homer in the second inning, but left the game after he batted in the sixth due to an irritated left elbow. 

The Giants have won three straight in the four-game series, and have beaten the Padres eight times in nine games since early July. 

"We definitely could have folded up," Durham said. "The makeup of the ballclub, no matter what happens, we still battle until the last out's made. That showed tonight." 
 
Durham singled with one out in the 13th, his third hit, and was sacrificed to second by pitcher Brad Hennessey, who pinch-hit because there were no bench players left. After Shea Hillenbrand walked, Alfonzo singled to left off Alan Embree (4-3) to score Durham. 

Alfonzo stood on first and pumped his fist. 

"It was my first time in that situation," he said. "I was so excited at that moment, that's why I put my hand up. Now I know I do my job." 

After Embree's error loaded the bases, Scott Williamson came on and walked Pedro Feliz to force in another run. 

"It's frustrating to go in, make quality pitches but cost us the game," Embree said. 

Ben Johnson hit two homers for the Padres, including a tying shot in the 10th off Armando Benitez. Brian Giles and Mark Bellhorn also connected for San Diego, which lost for the seventh time in nine games, a slump that has dropped it from the NL West lead to third place. 

The Padres are at .500 (60-60) for the first time since May 6. 
 
"That's a tough one to lose," Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. "We got some big home runs there, we're close to winning the ballgame and they get some big two-out hits. That's the difference in the ballgame." 

Steve Kline (3-3) pitched two innings for the win. Mike Stanton pitched the 13th for his second save in three chances. 

Johnson homered to left leading off the 10th on a full-count pitch from Benitez, whose blown save was his fourth in his last six chances, and his eighth this season. Johnson had his first career two-homer game and tied his career high with three hits. He has four homers this year. 

Durham had three RBIs, including driving in Moises Alou with the tying run in the eighth and the go-ahead run in the 10th. 

Alou doubled off Jon Adkins with one out in the 10th, took third on Todd Linden's groundout and made it 5-4 on Durham's single. 

In the eighth, Alou scored on Durham's groundout to tie it at 4. Alou hit a leadoff single to left and stole second with one out. As catcher Mike Piazza's errant throw sailed into center field, Alou got up and hustled to third. He slid in ahead of the throw from Mike Cameron, who at first seemed surprised Alou was trying to take the base. 

Bonds homered to right field on a full-count pitch from Chan Ho Park leading off the second inning, his 16th. Bonds is 31 shy of tying home run king Hank Aaron's record of 755. 

Park was making his second start since a stay on the disabled list during which he received three pints of blood to treat intestinal bleeding. The right-hander earned the dubious distinction of tying Greg Maddux, Terry Mulholland, Curt Schilling and John Smoltz as having allowed eight homers each to Bonds, the most by any pitchers. 

The 42-year-old Bonds hadn't homered since Aug. 4 against Colorado. 

The homer gave Bonds 1,903 RBIs, tying him for seventh on the career list with his godfather, Willie Mays. 
 
It was Bonds' 84th homer and 208th RBI against San Diego, his most against any opponent. His 44 homers in San Diego are his most in any road city. 

Todd Greene also homered for the Giants, his first this season. 

Giants lefty Noah Lowry allowed the first three Padres homers. 

Giles connected with two outs in the first, the second time this season he's homered in consecutive games. It was his 10th. 

After Bonds tied the game at 1, San Diego's Josh Barfield hit a sacrifice fly in the second. San Francisco's Todd Greene tied it in the third with his leadoff homer into the second deck in left field. 

Johnson's first homer was to left with one out in the third. Bellhorn made it 4-2 when he homered into the front row of the home run porch in the right-field corner, where it hit off a fan's glove and fell back onto the field. It was Bellhorn's eighth. 

Park allowed Durham's RBI double in the sixth that pulled the Giants to 4-3. 

Park allowed three runs and five hits in 5 1-3 innings, struck out three and walked three. Lowry went six, giving up four runs and five hits, with five strikeouts and three walks.

Bonds was going to get Thursday off anyway, manager Felipe Alou said. ... Piazza was back in the starting lineup two nights after being forced out after getting hit on the forearm by a pitch. ... Padres reliever Scott Linebrink allowed a run for the fourth straight appearance. ... San Diego is 0-for-22 with runners in scoring position in the series.
