'코리안특급' 박찬호(33.샌디에이고  파드리스)가 5년 만에 다시 만난 메이저리그 홈런왕 배리 본즈(42.샌프란시스코  자이언츠)와 맞대결에서 완승했다.

그러나 그와 승부에 집중한 나머지 다른 타자에게는 고전했고 결국 시즌 6승 달성에는 실패했다. 

박찬호는 1일(한국시간) 샌디에이고 펫코파크에서 벌어진 미국프로야구  샌프란시스코와 홈경기에 선발 등판, 8이닝 동안 홈런 3개 포함 7안타를 맞고 5실점(4자책)한 뒤 4-5로 뒤진 8회 타석에서 마크 벨혼으로 교체됐다. 

투구수는 107개, 스트라이크는 69개였다. 지난달 25일 시애틀전에 이어 2경기  연속 홈런 3방씩을 내줬고 평균자책점은 4.31에서 4.32로 약간 올랐다. 

지난 2001년 10월6일 SBC파크에서 벌어진 샌프란시스코전에서 본즈에게 시즌 71,72호 홈런을 연달아 내준 후 4년 9개월만에 다시 만난 박찬호는 이날은 4번 상대해 2삼진을 앗아내며 단 한 차례도 출루를 허용하지 않았다. 

박찬호는 1회 2사 1루에서 본즈에게 볼카운트 2-2에서 5구 바깥쪽 높은 직구(148㎞)를 뿌려 2루수 플라이로 잡았다. 3회 1사 후에는 가운데에서  빠르게  떨어지는 변화구(132㎞)로 헛스윙 삼진을 유도했다. 

5회 2사후에는 3구째 몸쪽 높은 직구(146㎞)로 2루 땅볼로 잡았다. 8회에도  볼카운트 2-2에서 빠른 직구(148㎞)로 루킹 삼진 아웃을 뽑아냈다. 

박찬호는 이날 0-0이던 2회 1사 후 스티브 핀리에게 우선상 2루타를 맞은 뒤 곧바로 페드로 펠리스에게 좌측 펜스를 훌쩍 넘어가는 홈런을 맞고 2실점했다. 

이어 엘라이저 알폰소의 평범한 타구를 2루수 조시 바필드가 놓치면서 다시  고비가 닥쳤고 2사 2루에서 랜디 윈의 단타성 타구를 중견수 마이크 캐머런이  노바운드로 잡으려다 뒤로 빠뜨려 3루타로 만들어주면서 박찬호는 다시 1점을 허용했다. 

3회에는 본즈를 삼진으로 잡고 한숨을 돌릴 틈도 없이 후속 레이 더햄에게 초구 직구를 던졌다가 우월 솔로포를 얻어맞았다. 

지난달 25일 시애틀전에서 홈런 3방을 맞은 이후 2경기 연속 '멀티 피홈런'을  허용, 체력 저하에 대한 우려를 자아냈다. 

그러나 4회부터 안정을 찾은 박찬호는 이후 4이닝을 무실점으로  넘겼으나  8회 마크 스위니에게 우월 솔로포를 내주고 강판했다. 

샌디에이고 타선은 0-4로 뒤지던 4회 비니 카스티야의 2타점  적시타로  추격한 뒤  5회 마이크 피아자의 2타점 중전 안타로 4-4 동점을 만들었다. 

한편 '3할타자' 박찬호는 이날 6회 깨끗한 중전 안타로 시즌 10번째 안타를  기록하며 타율 0.345를 마크했다. (서울=연합뉴스)

'코리안특급' 박찬호(33.샌디에이고 파드리스)가 이제는 대타로 타석에 들어설 정도로 타격 솜씨를 인정받았다. 

 박찬호는 30일(한국시간) 펫코파크에서 벌어진 오클랜드 애슬레틱스와 인터리그홈경기에서 5-5로 맞선 연장 13회 2사 주자 없는 상황에서 투수 앨런 엠브리를 대신해 대타로 등장했다. 

 박찬호는 볼카운트 1-1에서 상대 투수 론 플로레스의 3구째를 밀어쳤지만 우익수 뜬공에 그쳤다. 박찬호의 시즌 타율은 0.360에서 0.346(26타수9안타)로 떨어졌다. 

 박찬호는 전날까지 팀내 투수 가운데 최고 높은 타율을 올렸고 이날 연장 혈전을 치르면서 샌디에이고는 교체 요원을 대부분 소진, 박찬호의 대타 출장이 이뤄진것으로 보인다. 

 박찬호는 유일하게 남은 야수 대타 요원 제프 블럼을 제치고 타석에 들어서는이변을 연출했다. 

 실제 샌디에이고는 이날 투수 로스터 12명 가운데 1일 선발로 나서는 박찬호를비롯한 4명을 제외하고 8명을 마운드에 투입했다. 이날 샌디에이고 기록표에는 21명의 타자가 나선 것으로 기록됐다. 

 샌디에이고는 총력전을 펼쳤지만 연장 14회 결승점을 내줘 5-6으로 패했다. 

 한편 메이저리그 최고의 지장으로 꼽히는 토니 라루사 세인트루이스 감독은 종종 투수를 대타로 기용, 신선한 볼거리를 제공하며 실제 득점에서도 짭짤한 재미를봐왔다.

"We didn't want to go 14 innings again today," Brian Giles said after the Padres rallied to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-5 on Friday night to hold onto first place in the NL West. 

The win came a day after a tough 14-inning, 6-5 loss to the Oakland Athletics. 

While Greene had the big hit, Chan Ho Park did his part to save the Padres. A day after they used all seven relievers, Park threw eight innings to keep the Padres in the game even though he allowed three homers. 

That means the bullpen should be fresh for Saturday's split doubleheader. 
 
"We would have had to have Cameron or maybe even Gonzalez get loose," Giles joked, referring to center fielder Mike Cameron and first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. "So it was nice to finish it off in nine, short turnaround and we play tomorrow at 12." 

Said manager Bruce Bochy: "He saved us. No question we needed to give guys a break down there. He didn't get the win, but he helped us win." 

Trailing 5-4, the Padres rallied off Jeremy Accardo (0-2), who blew his first save in four chances. Giles hit a leadoff single to left, advanced on a wild pitch and took third on Gonzalez's one-out bloop single to right. Gonzalez took second on the throw and was replaced by pinch-runner Eric Young. 

Greene then hit a sinking liner to right to score Giles and Young, who barely slid in ahead of the tag. 

Everyone celebrated except the low-key Greene, who touched first base, then headed for the dugout. 

"I don't know if I manifest excitement all that much," Greene said. "I'm just happy with being able to do what I wanted to do going into the at-bat. I'm pleased about it." 

Greene's hitting only .226, but he's got 42 RBIs, second on the team. 
 
"He's not hitting what he wants to hit, but he clutched up tonight," Bochy said. 

"The thing that stinks is I that I threw the ball well but I can't take anything away from it," Accardo said. "It was a good pitch. He couldn't do anything with it but what he did." 

Brian Sikorski (1-1) pitched a perfect ninth for the win. 

The Padres kept their one-game lead over Los Angeles and Colorado. Had San Francisco won, there would have been a four-way tie atop the division. 

Former Padres reserve Mark Sweeney hit a tiebreaking homer with one out in the eighth. 

Barry Bonds went 0-for-4 as the Giants' three-game winning streak ended. Bonds was loudly booed, just as he was here on opening day. No one threw a syringe at him, though, as one fan did on April 3. 

The crowd laughed and cheered when Bonds went down after fouling a ball off his right ankle in the eighth. They booed when he got up, and cheered when he struck out. 

That came one at-bat after Sweeney hit a 1-1 pitch from Park into the home run porch down the right-field line, his fourth. Giles leaped for the ball and was reaching into the stands to make a play when the ball deflected off a fan's hands and away from the outfielder. 

"When you've got arms and beers hanging out over there, it's tough," Giles said. 

Sweeney was a key reserve last year when the Padres won the NL West. 
 
"Thank God I hit it where I did," Sweeney said. "That's the only place where it would have gone out." 

Park allowed three homers among seven hits in eight innings. He gave up five runs, four earned, struck out three and walked none. 

The Giants had four extra base hits in the first three innings off Park, including homers by Pedro Feliz and Ray Durham, to take a 4-0 lead. 

San Diego rallied off Jamey Wright to tie it, with Vinny Castilla hitting a two-run single with two outs in the fourth and Mike Piazza driving in two more with a single with the bases loaded and no outs in the fifth. Piazza had three hits. 

With the no-decision, Wright remained winless in his last seven starts, a streak that includes four losses. He allowed four runs and 10 hits in six innings, walked three and struck out two. 

Feliz hit a two-run homer into the balcony on the second level of the Western Metal Supply Co. Building just beyond the left-field corner with one out in the second, his 11th. Randy Winn hit a two-out RBI triple. 

Durham hit a two-out homer in the third, his ninth.

The Giants agreed to terms with RHP Tim Lincecum, their first-round draft pick. ... The Padres hired Paul DePodesta as special assistant for baseball operations, giving them five former general managers on the payroll.
