PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Instead of getting fatigued, Chan Ho Park says he becomes more focused as the game goes along.

That was evident again on Thursday night.

The veteran right-hander survived a shaky start to log seven impressive innings and help the San Diego Padres win their second straight game with a 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies.

"I feel like I make better pitches in the third, fourth and fifth innings," Park said. "I have better focus as the game goes along."

The Padres, who had 12 hits, including a career-high four by rookie Josh Barfield, won for the seventh time in 11 games.

Park (6-4) survived a shaky start to earn his fourth win in his last five decisions. He gave up three runs and nine hits with six strikeouts and two walks.

Scott Linebrink worked a scoreless eighth and Trevor Hoffman pitched a perfect ninth for his 22nd save in 23 chances.

Chase Utley had two doubles and two runs scored for Philadelphia, which has lost eight straight series since sweeping Arizona on June 5-7. The Phillies are 6-19 since then.

San Diego rallied for three runs to take a 5-3 lead in the fifth off starter Ryan Madson (8-6). Brian Giles had an RBI double, Mike Cameron scored on a wild pitch and Adrian Gonzalez delivered an RBI single to lead the Padres.

Park didn't look like he would be around for the comeback after struggling through the first two innings. He gave up three runs and five hits and two walks in the first two innings.

"It's so important not to cave in at that point, and Chan Ho didn't," Padres manager Bruce Bochy said. "He came out in the third inning and really started to hit his spots with all his pitches."

From there, Park settled into a nice groove - allowing four hits over the next five shutout innings with just one baserunner reaching second base. He retired the final five batters he faced, including three by strikeout.

"I tried to come out and throw more fastballs in the third inning, more two-seamers instead of four-seamers," Park said. "I was able to keep the game close early and that gave us a chance to win.

After 58 pitches in the first two innings, Park needed just 61 in his five final innings.

"I feel much better after 70-80 pitches," Park said.

Philadelphia took a 1-0 in the first on Pat Burrell's walk with the bases loaded. The damage could have been worse but Park worked out of a bases-loaded one-out jam by getting a pair of ground-outs.

Utley's RBI double and Bobby Abreu's RBI single made it 3-0 in the second.

"That was our offense - two innings," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "After the second inning, Park got more aggressive and got more confidence in himself."

San Diego cut the deficit to 3-1 in the third when Mike Piazza singled home Dave Roberts.

Piazza left the game in the fifth. He tweaked his right knee while trying to stretch the single into a double. Bochy said Piazza couldn't squat into his catcher's position and the change was made as Josh Bard replaced him behind the plate.

"We'll re-evaluate his situation (Friday)," Bochy said. "He doesn't think it's anything serious and he'll be ready to play over the weekend."

The Padres made it 3-2 in the fourth on Barfield's RBI double. On the play, Vinny Castilla scored from first base, aided when Utley's relay throw short-hopped catcher Carlos Ruiz and the ball bounced away.

Barfield finished 4-for-4.

"It makes it really fun to come to the ballpark," Barfield said. "A game like that can build your confidence."

Madson, coming off his strongest start of the season at Baltimore on June 29, left after five innings. He gave up five runs and eight hits, striking out three and walking three.

"I was struggling mechanically the whole game," Madson said. "I don't know what it is. I've just go to simply it. I left a lot of balls over the plate. That's what bothering me the most."

Notes

Roberts stole two bases, raising his season total to 21. ... The Phillies are 11-2 in their last 13 games against the Padres. ... Utley extended his hitting streak to 12 games. ... Padres C Josh Bard is batting .556 (10- for-18) during his six-game hitting streak.
