'레블뢰' 프랑스가 '3분의 기적'을 이룬 잉글랜드전 승리에 이어 또다시 행운의 무승부로 8강행을 눈앞에 뒀다. 

프랑스는 18일 새벽(한국시간) 포르투갈 레이리아의 마갈라엥스 스타디움에서 벌어진 크로아티아와의 유로2004 B조 두번째 경기에서 상대 자책골과 상대 실수로 얻은 행운의 2골 덕에 간신히 2-2로 비겼다. 

이로써 프랑스는 1승1무 승점4로 조 1위를 수성하며 최약체인 스위스와의 마지막 대결만을 남겨두게 됐다. 

트레제게 원톱에다 앙리-지단-윌토르 등 호화 공격라인이 포진한 프랑스는 초반부터 경기를 주도했다. 프랑스의 행운은 전반 22분 시작됐다. 페널티 지역 오른쪽에서 지단이 차올린 오른발 프리킥이 프랑스의 실베스트르의 왼발을 스쳐 크로아티아 수비수 이고르 투도르의 왼쪽 허벅지를 맞고 골네트로 빨려들어갔다. 

하지만 크로아티아의 후반 반격은 거셌다. 후반 3분 로소가 얻어낸 페널티킥을 라파이치가 왼발로 침착하게 차넣으며 동점을 이뤘고, 4분 뒤 다도 프르소가 프랑스 수비수 데자이의 헛발질을 틈타 왼발 발리슛으로 승부를 뒤집었다. 

패색이 짙던 프랑스에 행운의 여신이 또다시 미소를 보냈다. 

후반 19분 자책골의 사나이 투토르가 GK 부티나에게 백패스한 볼이 부티나의 몸에 튕긴 뒤 다시 프랑스 트레제게의 왼손에 맞았다. 하지만 주심이 핸들링 반칙을 못본 사이 트레제게는 크로아티아 골문에 왼발슛을 적중했다. 

한편 프랑스전 패배로 탈락의 암운이 드리웠던 잉글랜드는 이날 코임브라 스타디움에서 열린 스위스전에서 '축구 신동' 웨인 루니의 2골과 스티븐 제라드의 쐐기골에 힘입어 3-0으로 완승, 8강행 불씨를 살렸다.

PARIS (AFP) - France passed up a chance to book their place in the quarter-finals when an enterprising Croatia held them to a 2-2 draw in Group B action.

When Igor Tudor deflected a Zinedine Zidane freekick into his own net half way through the first period French optimism did not look misplaced. 

The Croatians however rocked the titleholders with two quickfire goals just after the restart through Milan Rapaic from the penalty spot and Dado Prso. 

And it was only when David Trezeguet capitalised on a ghastly error by Robert Kovac in the 63rd minute that the French managed to draw level. 

Croatia could have grabbed victory in the closing minutes if substitute Ivica Mornar had not poked a gilt-edged chance past the post. 

The draw leaves France a point clear of England, with a seemingly routine fixture against the Swiss to come.

Croatia meanwhile must beat England on Sunday to advance. 

After a quiet opening period defender Igor Tudor suffered a cruel dose of ill luck when he deflected in a Zidane freekick from some 25 yards out to leave Croatian keeper Tomislav Butina groping at thin air as the ball ricocheted past him. 

The second half was barely two minutes old when Silvestre clattered into Dovani Rosso to hand Rapaic the chance to level from the spot.

Where David Beckham had failed the Croatian succeeded, smashing the ball past Barthez. 

Four minutes later it was Desailly's turn to flap as he completely lost Prso and the Monaco man thumped home on the turn to spark bedlam among the 15,000 Croatian fans. 

Trezeguet finally dragged the French out of the mire just as their rivals theatened to overrun them, lathcing onto a misplaced backpass from Tudor and rounding Tomislav Butina to slot home his 29th goal in 53 internationals.
