Match Summary: 
It took more than an hour for Chile's first goal, socred by Zamorano from the penalty spot. This was after substitute Gonzalez went down but the decision looked somewhat harsh. There was no doubt, however, about Zamorano's second goal, scored from close range with six minutes left. It took his goal tally at the tournament to six. Ironically, the USA looked the better team for the first part of the second half and came close to the first goal, denied by the woodwork. 
   
칠레, 미국 꺾고 동메달 

칠레가 시드니올림픽축구 3-4위 결정전에서 미국을 완파하고 동메달을 차지했다.

칠레는 29일 밤 시드니풋볼스타디움에서 열린 경기에서 와일드카드로 출전한 이반 사모라노가 후반 2골을 터뜨린 데 힘입어 미국을 2-0으로 꺾었다. 

이로써 칠레는 사상 두번째로 진출한 올림픽 본선에서 동메달을 따내  남미축구의 체면을 살렸다.

사모라노는 후반 25분 페널티킥으로 첫 골을 넣은 뒤 39분 클라우디오 말도나도의 패스를 받아 페널티지역 정면에서 추가골을 성공시켜 승부를 갈랐다. 

사모라노는 이날 2골을 넣어 개인통산 6골을 기록해 결승전을 남겨 놓은 파트리크 음보마(카메룬.4골)를 제치고 득점왕에 오를 가능성이 높아졌다.
