The US replied with a penalty just before half-time after Hejduk had been brought down. The USA never created many chances despite an early double substitution and Spain solidified their win with a late goal from Jos? Mari.

Match Summary: 
Despite the rain, both teams took to the field with positive attacking ambitions. While Chile relied on the long ball, Cameroon showed some intricate passing movements. Both sides created chances to score, but the game was goalless at half time. In the second half Chile came close to scoring on several occasions, putting Cameroon under severe pressure in defense. They went ahead when Gonzalez broke clear and Abanda deflected the ball into his own net. The Africans rallied strongly, hitting back with a shot by Mboma and a penalty by Lauren after Mboma had been brought down. 
 
스페인-카메룬, 정상서 격돌 

`무적 함대' 스페인과 `검은 사자'  카메룬이 시드니올림픽 축구 결승에서 왕중왕을 가린다.

스페인은 26일 시드니풋볼스타디움에서 열린 준결승에서 라울 타무도와 미겔 앙굴로, 호세 마리가 각각 1골씩을 터뜨려 페널티킥으로 1골을 만회한데 그친  미국을 3-1로 가볍게 누르고 결승에 올랐다.
 

이로써 스페인은 92년 바르셀로나올림픽에서 우승 이후 8년만에 정상 탈환을 노리게 됐다.
 

스페인은 전반 16분 타무도의 첫 골로 기선을 잡았고 11분 뒤 앙굴로의 추가골로 2-0으로 앞서 쉽게 풀어갔다.
 

미국은 전반 42분 피터 배거너스의 페널티킥 성공으로 1골차로  따라  붙었으나 후반 42분 스페인 호세 마리에게 세번째 골을 내줘 4강에서 주저앉았다.
 

카메룬은 멜버른 크리켓그라운드에서 열린 준결승에서 종료직전 에타메 마예르가  페널티킥을 성공시켜 막강한 공격력을 과시해온 칠레에 2-1의 역전승을 거두고  결승에 진출했다.
 

전반을 0-0 득점없이 끝낸 카메룬은 후반 33분 아반다의 자책골로 사기가  한풀 꺾였으나 6분 뒤 파트리크 음보마가 동점골을 터뜨려 승부를 원점으로 돌렸다.
 

경기는 연장전으로 돌입할 것으로 보였으나 마예르가 후반 45분 페널티킥을 골네트에 꽂아 넣으면서 카메룬을 사상 첫 결승진출로 이끌었다.
 

한편 결승은 30일 올림픽주경기장, 3-4위전은 하루 앞선 29일 시드니 풋볼 스타디움에서 각각 열린다.
