Match Summary:
Honduras shocked the homeside with an early goal by striker
David Suazo. The Latin Americans had, in this interesting and attractive
match, other opportunities to score, but the Australians had some, too.
Although the home team could not qualify anymore for the quarterfinals,
they played with heart. This fighting spirit was mainly responsible for
the 1-1 goal after halftime. But the Hondurans fought back and Suazo scored
his second goal of the match. The Australians were the better team in the
second half, but they could not score another goal.

Goals Scored: LAWAL Garba (NGA) 40', pen. , OKUNOWO
Gbenga (NGA) 65', own goal
Match Summary:
A defensive error by Nigeria almost gave Italy the lead
when Etafia managed to control a misdirected header. Then, Nigeria began
a phase of permanent counter- attacks and domnated most of the first half.
Every time Italy attacked they were bogged down by the much improved Nigeria
defence. Five minutes from the break, the Super Eagles took the lead on
a penalty kick by Lawal. After the break they continued putting their fine
attacking skills on show but were unfortunate when Okunowo sent the ball
into their own net. Even with one man down, Nigeria pushed hard and made
great efforts to get the better of a rather lacklustre Italian team.

Goals Scored: LEE Dong Gook (KOR) 29'
Match Summary:
There was strong attacking from Korea in the first half
right from the start; even with only ten men after the 11th minute expulsion,
Korea continued pushing into Chile's territory. Korea had a nice goal in
the 29th minute and came very close in the 32nd minute to do it again when
an attacker blasted a volley just wide of the right post. In the second
half, Korea continued to attack and even with ten men didn't show a noticeable
disparity with Chile. There were several missed opportunities on both sides.
Chile was somewhat sluggish and never really built up momentum. Korea was
cleverly motivated for a win.

Goals Scored: JOSE MARI (ESP) 33' , GABRI (ESP)
90'
Match Summary:
After a frantic opening period in which both teams set
out to attack. Spain gradually gained the supremacy. They created a string
of chances and were denied only by poor finishing and secret excellent
last-ditch defending. The deserved breakthrough came when Jose Mari volleyed
across the face to hit the net inside the far post. The second half swayed
back and forth but clear-cut chances were rare until Gabri rattled in a
lone ball in the final minutes. The substitute Spanish goalkeeper was ejected
from the field of play shortly before the end.

Goals Scored: CALIFF Danny (USA) 40' , ALBRIGHT
Chris (USA) 63' , NAJEM Bader (KUW) 83' , DONOVAN Landon (USA) 88'
Match Summary:
The USA made light of the wet conditions in the first
half, playing some neat and incisive football and coming close to scoring
on several occasions. Califf broke the deadlock with a powerful header
to give the Americans a deserved lead. They went further ahead in the second
half when the strong running Albright broke clear to score from a tight
angle. However, despite further chances for the US, the Kuwaiti pulled
one back when Najem slid home a low cross. In the dying minutes a quick
counterattack saw Donovan score the third for the USA.

Goals Scored: ETAME MAYER Lauren (CMR) 24' , DOSEK
Lukas (CZE) 74'
Match Summary:
Cameroon made heavy weather of qualifying for the quarter-finals
despite taking the lead through Laurent Etame Mayer in the first half.
The Czechs fought back after the interval and equalised after the Cameroon
goalkeeper failed to hold onto the ball. The Czechs missed two great chances
after that, which would have seen them through at Cameroon's expense.
9/20[23] ºê¶óÁú vs. ÀϺ» = 1 : 0
Goals Scored: ALEX (BRA) 5'
Match Summary:
Brazil got off to an early start with Alex heading home
in only the fifth minute - climbing above the defence at the back post.
Both sides then had a series of chances but never any real clear-cut opportunities.
It was a tough physical encounter where Japan more than matched their illustrious
opponents. Both sides were also conscious of the score from the other group
in Canberra.

Goals Scored: CZINEGE Juraj (SVK) 47' , SLAHOR
Jan (SVK) 72' , MC CARTHY Benny (RSA) 75'
Match Summary:
A great team effort by Slovakia brought them the first
points in the tournament. After a goal-less first half, Slovakia took a
surprising lead two minutes into the second half when captain Czinege scored.
The second half was an absolute thriller. Both teams had a lot of good
scoring opportunities, but both goalkeepers were very good. Benny McCarthy
was an outstanding player, but could "only" score one goal.
