Match Summary:

Belgium system
System of play: 4-1-3-2; played with four defenders, one defending midfielder, three constructive midfielders and two striking players. Flexible adaptation of combination game.

Strong points: Holding position and active game without the ball with good understanding among the players. Experience of many players who have played in World Cups before. Teamwork and co-operation.

Outstanding players: Vidovic (4), Wilmots (7), Scifo (14), Nilis (10), Van der Elst (6).
Korea Republic flag Korea Republic

Korea Republic system
System of play: 3-5-2 system with a very quick move from defence to attack. Quick penetration runs or with long passes to strikers. Sweeper falls slightly back and changed his position with other players.

Strong points: Physical condition of the team (speed and endurance as well as jumping abilities. Showed courage.

Outstanding players: Kim Byung Ji (GK, 1), Yoo Sang Chul (6), Choi Yong Soo (10), Ha Seok Ju (17), Seo Jung Won (11).
Defence:
    No offside tactics intentionally.
    Zone marking.
Sweeper slightly behind defensive line (Staelens (3) and Vidovic (4)).
Used headers in a positive way. Skill was evident but under pressure was suspect. Switch to attack was well organised, but not fast enough.
Well organised support from midfield and attack (sometimes not one striker stayed upfront).
The team had a good balance in defending activities. Read game in defence well.
Defence:
    No deliberate offside tactic.
Mixed man to man and zonal.
    Sweeper behind defence.
Very good jumping abilities but lacking in accuracy with headers. Lost too many balls in defensive zone. Need to reduce speed when receiving balls. Loose sometimes orientation and co-ordination.
Play sometimes too deep in defence. Need to go forward faster and push opponents out of the danger one.
Attack:
Mostly done through effective midfielders (Wilmots and Scifo) to Nilis especially who was looking for free space and moved well. The change from Oliveira to Mpenza (9) brought more effectiveness on the right side. Surprising moves were created by the runs of Mpenza into free space as the penetration runs of Wilmots.
Shooting chances from Nilis (not well performed). Heading and dribblings were of a good standard. The team tried to recover balls immediately in midfield.
Support from midfield done by Wimots and Scifo's penetration passes. From defence, support was not given often.
Attack:
The attacks were mainly built-up with long passes to Choi Yong Soo (striker) and Seo Jung Won and Ha Seok Ju (supporting strikers). Yoo Sang Chul played a major role in the build-up of attacks.
They tried to shoot but without much success. Lacking of accuracy. Heading as well as fast, penetration dribblings were strong points of the team. Intention to recover lost balls immediately. Participation in defence was well done.
Good support from midfield (not from defence).
Summary:
The team indulged in short and a middle distance passing game with enough activities of players without the ball with Wilmots and Scifo leading the moves. Key player in defending activities was Clement; defensive midfielder with good orientation and anticipation of counter-attacks. He won a few important balls against the quick Korean counters.
Summary:
With confidence in the second half, the team created many goal opportunities. Finishing was poor. More freedom of activities was evident amongst the players and will to succeed was a strong, motivating factor. Worked for each other. If the team improvised more and showed greater creativity, they would be a danger to any opposition.
