Match Summary:
Korea Republic flag Korea Republic

Korea Republic system
System of play: 1-4-1-3-1; one sweeper, four men defence, one anker man, three midfield player and one up-front striker.
Strong points: Physical power, disciplined fast counters, esp. Combination play - very direct. Great working mentality, good possession play.
Outstanding players: Hong Myung Bo, Yoo Sang Chul, Ko Jong Soo, Kim Do Hoon.
Mexico flag Mexico

Mexico system
    System of play: 4-3-3
Strong points: Excellent short passing game, outstanding individualists, especially in attack. Good organisation and impressive creation and use of space.
Outstanting players: Campos (1), Garcia Aspe (8), Ramirez (7), Hernandez (15), Blanco (11).
Defence:
Deep laying defence, no offside tactic
    Man to man marking
Sweeper behind defence but not too deep.
Powerful on heading, skill level high but little creativity. Fast switch from defence to attack.
Everyone defends with enthusiasm. Midfield work at an intense pace.
Allow the opponent to dictate the pace.
Defence:
Hold the line, normally just outside penalty box.
4-men zonal defence; the two centre backs relate to each other and dictate the depth and the offside policy.
    No sweeper.
Few players are good in the air; technical skills are exceptional. The build-up is well constructed.
Hard working midfield when defending, the front three have little enthusiasm for defending.
It is very difficult for the opposition to press against Mexico because goalkeeper Campos is an outstanding libero.
Attack:
Mainly counter attacks; use the wings but not effectively. Most success from fast, central combination play.
Very powerful on shooting and heading. Run with the ball very well but not particularly clever. Regain possession deep in their own half.
Good, fast support from midfield runners, little support from deep areas.
Everything is powerful and fast but no change of pace or variety of subtile techniques or tactics.
Attack:
A flowing construction, mainly with short, accurate passing. Excellent use of both wings. A great variety of surprising moves.
Fast shots at goal; brave heading, especially by the strikers, but not top class. Good dribblings by the front players. Try to recoup the ball in midfield areas.
Good back up play by wide midfield players and full backs.
Fantastic interchange by the front and middle players. Man for man markers (Korea) have great difficulty coping with their change of direction, quick pace and excellent technique.
  Standard situations:
Great variety on corners; short, long, cut backs. Free-kicks: quickly taken in midfield or bent into the box from wide areas. Defending against corners a struggle when the ball is in the air.
Summary:
A team which plays at a high intensity (sometimes too high). They do everything with discipline and commitment but there is no surprise to their play. They are predictable.
Summary:
Mexico are an exciting team with a high level of technical ability and a flair and imagination in their attacking play. They lack physical presence and their collecting defending is not convincing. It is a team which needs to dominate the game and in an expressive manner - the defensive block are not for them.
