7월 1일 토요일 프랑크푸르트에서 열린 2006 독일 FIFA 월드컵 8강전 마지막 경기에서 프랑스가 티에리 앙리의 후반전 결승골로 브라질을 1-0으로 누르고 준결승에 진출했다. 

지네딘 지단의 지휘 아래 경기의 주도권을 쥐고 브라질을 거세게 몰아 붙이던 프랑스는 57분 지단의 프리킥에 이어진 앙리의 발리슛으로 승부를 결정 지었다. 오늘 승리로 4강에 오른 프랑스는 7월 5일 뮌헨에서 포르투갈과 결승행을 다투게 됐다. 이로써 4강은 독일, 이탈리아, 포르투갈, 프랑스 등 유럽 팀들로 압축됐다. 

경기: 
1분: 지네딘 지단이 경기 개시부터 뛰어난 발재간을 발휘했다. 금색 축구화를 신은 지단이 브라질 미드필더를 피해 공을 끌고 나갔으나 티에리 앙리를 향한 패스에서 실수를 했다.

14분: 프랑스가 압박 속에서 코너를 얻어낸다. 지다는 크로스를 완벽히 걷어내지는 못했지만 위험한 실점 상황은 막을 수 있었다. 

15분: 경기는 순식간에 반전되었고, 브라질이 반대편 골문 앞에서 득점 기회를 만들어 냈다. 호나우두가 올린 멋진 크로스가 카카에게 연결되려는 순간 파비앵 바르테즈 골키퍼가 걷어내는데 성공했다. 

26분: 루시우는 앙리의 발 뒤꿈치를 걷어차며 FIFA 월드컵 최초의 파울을 범했다. 지단의 프리킥은 크로스바 위로 날아갔다. 

33분: 프랑크 리베리가 지우베르투 시우바와 충돌하며 프랑스가 프리킥을 얻었다. 튀랑이 페널티 박스 안쪽으로 전달한 공을 지단이 헤딩했으나 주앙이 안전하게 처리했다. 
 
44분: 다시 한 번, 지단의 공격이 살아나며 프랑스가 득점 기회를 얻었다. 지단은 공을 따낸 후 브라질의 포백을 뚫고 단독 찬스를 맞은 비에라에 전달했다. 경기장 모서리에서 주앙이 비에라를 쓰러뜨리며 경고를 받았다. 

프랑스의 선취 득점 
46분: 경기가 재개되자 프랑스가 공격적으로 나섰다. 후반전이 시작되자마자 지단의 프리킥을 비에라가 절묘한 헤딩슛으로 연결했지만 골대 옆을 살짝 비켜갔다. 

48분: 호나우지뉴가 멋진 발재간을 선보이며 탄성을 자아내는 지단의 묘기에 응수했다. 호나우지뉴는 오른쪽에서 멋진 개인기를 과시하면서 코너킥을 얻어냈다. 수 분 동안 계속된 브라질의 공세가 계속됐다. 바르테즈는 바짝 긴장한 채 문전을 향해 날린 제 호베르투의 슈터링을 막아냈다. 

54분: 앙리가 비에라의 절묘한 패스를 받아 골망을 흔들면서 프랑스가 선제골을 기록한 듯 했지만 이미 선심의 깃발이 올라간 뒤였다. 

57분: 프랑스는 좋은 기회를 놓쳤지만, 3분 후 앙리가 승부의 균형을 무너뜨렸다. 지단의 프리킥이 문전으로 날아오자 아스날 공격수 앙리가 노마크 상황에서 오른발 발리슛으로 골대를 갈랐다. 0-1 

61분: 코너 깃발 근처에서 리베리가 루시우를 제치고 문전으로 쇄도하는 지단을 향해 땅볼 패스를 시도했다. 그러나 주앙의 발에 맞고 굴절되며 골대 옆을 살짝 벗어났다. 

70분: 프랑스가 기습 공격에 나섰다. 리베리가 페널티 박스 가장자리에서 쐐기골을 노려봤지만 지다가 각도를 좁히며 선방했다. 

81분: 교체해 들어온 레알 마드리드 소속 호비뉴가 오늘 경기 통틀어 최고의 득점 기회를 맞았지만 좋은 위치에서 시도한 슈팅은 골문과는 거리가 멀었다. 
 
88분: 호나우두가 페널티 지역 바로 앞에서 튀랑으로부터 파울을 얻어냈고 호나우지뉴가 프리킥을 차기 위해 준비했다. 프랑스의 전 국민이 가슴을 졸이고 있는 가운데, FIFA 올해의 선수로 선정된 호나우지뉴가 문전을 향해 감아 찼지만 골대를 아슬아슬하게 넘어가면서 레몽 도메네크 감독이 이끄는 프랑스 대표팀의 서포터들은 안도의 한숨을 내쉬었다. 

91+분: 교체 출전한 루이 사아가 지단의 패스를 받아 득점을 노려봤지만 지다의 선방에 막혔다. 골키퍼 지다는 기습 공격을 위해 공을 프랑스 진영으로 걷어냈다. 바르테즈가 호나우두의 그림 같은 슈팅을 몸을 던지며 쳐내자 갈라스가 아드리아누에 한 발 앞서 공을 걷어냈다.

FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - France still has Brazil's number. And on Saturday, the French had all the flair, too. 
 
The experienced and savvy French shocked the five-time World Cup champions 1-0 in a stunningly one-sided match. Tacked onto France's 3-0 victory in the 1998 title game - the last time Brazil lost in the World Cup - it's clear the Brazilians have a nemesis at soccer's highest level. 

The heroes were familiar, as well. 

French captain Zinedine Zidane, headed into retirement after the tournament, served a perfect free kick to Thierry Henry in the 57th minute. Completely unmarked, Henry had the whole right side of the goal and put a right-footed volley into the roof of the net. 

"This was not a lucky victory," Henry said. 

"I've always said this World Cup isn't about us dreaming of winning, but I have to say this victory is the stuff of dreams," added Henry, who hugged several Brazilian players after the match. "Now we want to go all the way." 

France began the tournament so poorly it appeared headed for a first-round exit like four years ago. Instead, it heads to the semifinals against Portugal on Wednesday in Munich. With Germany playing Italy in Tuesday's semifinal in Dortmund, this will be the first all-European final four since 1982. 

It was Zidane who lifted his nation all the way past Brazil eight years ago, scoring two goals for France's only title. 

Since then, Brazil had won 11 straight World Cup games and another title. Its streak of three straight finals, two of them wins, also was snapped. 

"It's a difficult moment to be eliminated when we were so close to the semifinals," coach Carlos Alberto Parreira said. "I did not prepare for this and no one in our delegation prepared for this." 

Indeed, it was a shocking exit for the defending champions and pretournament favorites. The Brazilians had just one shot on goal all game. Their porous defense was hardly better. The French eclipsed Brazil's galaxy of stars with crisp passing, aggressive tackling and superior play in the air. Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka were either invisible or inept. 

In the final minutes, Brazil desperately pressed forward, with Ronaldinho surfacing at last and barely missing on a free kick. Two more attacks yielded nothing as France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez screamed at his teammates to hold on. 

Barthez grabbed a floater by Lucio, and the clock ran out as he made his goal kick, setting off a wild celebration as France players mobbed each other while jumping in a circle. As the vanquished and dazed Brazilians left the field, the French players headed to the corner where their fans were waving flags and taking pictures - and savoring a magnificent victory. 

Brazil and France have played three times since the 1998 final, with France winning 2-1 in the 2001 Confederations Cup in South Korea and then playing to a 0-0 draw in a 2004 friendly in Paris. 

Obviously, intimidation is not a factor for the French, who were the better team all night. Zidane weaved, bobbed and spun his way through the Brazilian midfield, looking more like the three-time FIFA World Player of the Year than a man who is ready to retire. 

The short passing game he orchestrated looked Brazilian. Several of his superb touches led to dangerous opportunities for Henry, Patrick Vieira, Franck Ribery and Florent Malouda. 

Toward the end of the first half, Ronaldo and Juan both drew yellow cards trying to slow down the French offense. 

Juan pulled down Vieira on a near breakaway after a brilliant midfield feed by Zidane. It could have drawn an ejection, but referee Luis Medina pulled out the yellow, setting up a free kick from 20 yards that Ronaldo blocked with his arm just outside the penalty area. 

That drew a yellow for Brazil's scoring star, but his team escaped a scramble near its goal as the half ended. 

The reprieve was only temporary. 

For all Zidane's flowing play, it was his dead-ball cross following a foul that netted France's goal. 

About 30 yards out on the left wing, Zidane lofted an inward swinging cross. The Brazilians' marking had been loose all game and this time they paid. Henry, completely free at the back post, met the ball with his right foot. Goalkeeper Dida had no chance. 

In front of French President Jacques Chirac, France made Brazil look so ordinary - at times amateurish - that the yellow-clad Brazilians in the crowd even were whistling at their team late in the match. 

Zidane, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho have won eight of the last 10 FIFA world player of the year awards. Only Zidane displayed those skills Saturday. 

"We don't want to stop here," Zidane said. "It's so great that we want to carry on."
