2006년 6월 27일 (한국시각 28일) 도르트문트 FIFA 월드컵 경기장에서 벌어진 브라질과 가나의 8강전은 브라질의 3-0의 승리로 끝났다. 

브라질은 호나우두가 전반 5분만에 골키퍼를 가볍게 제치고 밀어넣은 골로 초반부터 앞서나갔다. 이후 브라질은 전반 추가시간에 아드리아누가 한 골을 더 추가했고, 경기 종료를 얼마 남기지 않은 84분에는 제 호베르투가 쐐기골을 넣으며 경기를 마무리했다. 가나는 대회 첫 출전국으로서 16강까지 오르며 더 큰 이변을 만들어내려 했으나 골 결정력 부족 문제를 드러내며 세계최강 브라질에게 무릎을 꿇고 말았다. 

지난 경기의 득점으로 게르트 뮐러와 함께 FIFA 월드컵 본선 통산 최다득점 부분 공동 1위에 이름을 올렸던 호나우두는 오늘 한 골을 더 추가함으로써 월드컵 본선 통산 15골로 이 부문 단독 1위로 올라섰다. 

오늘 경기에서 승리함으로써 8강에 오른 브라질은 7월 1일 (한국시각 2일 새벽) 프랑크푸르트에서 스페인 대 프랑스 경기의 승자와 준준결승전을 치르게 된다. 

경기: 
5분: 가나가 브라질의 호나우두에게 초반 실점을 허용하며 최악의 출발을 보였다. 호나우두는 이 득점으로 게르트 뮐러의 기록을 깨고 FIFA 월드컵 개인 통산 최다 득점 선수로 등극했다. 카카의 정교한 패스를 받은 호나우두는 빠른 발놀림으로 가나의 수비수를 따돌리고 자신의 트레이드마크인 헛다리짚기로 가나 골키퍼 리처드 킹슨마저 그라운드에 주저앉힌 후 개인 통산 15번째 골을 터뜨리며 월드컵 역사를 다시 썼다. (1-0) 
 
13분: 가나가 수비 진영의 느슨한 대처로 다시 한 번 위기를 맞았다. 아드리아누가 돌파에 성공한 후 페널티 에어리어에서 킹슨과 일대일로 맞섰지만 넘어지고 말았다. 아드리아누는 이 과정에서 발로 골키퍼를 가격하며 경고를 받았다. 

19분: 이번에는 브라질의 골키퍼가 위기를 맞았다. 하미누 드라마니가 장거리 슈팅을 날렸지만 골키퍼 지다의 손을 맞고 골대를 넘어갔다. 

29분: 가나의 매슈 아모아가 페널티 에어리어에서 지다를 향해 돌아서며 시도한 슈팅이 골키퍼의 정면으로 굴러갔다. 

30분: 호나우지뉴가 페널티킥 지점과 거의 일직선상인 왼쪽 측면에서 예상치 못한 슈팅을 날려서 킹슨을 깜짝 놀라게 했지만 킹슨이 밖으로 쳐내면서 코너킥이 선언됐다. 그에 이어 가나 골키퍼가 루시우의 헤딩을 선방한 후 속공을 펼치며 드라마니가 강력한 슈팅까지 시도했지만 골대를 훌쩍 넘어갔다. 

35분: 주앙의 실수로 가나가 왼쪽 측면에서 좋은 기회를 맞았다. 주앙이 외곽으로 걷어내려던 공이 가나 선수에게 차단당하며 아사모아 기안에게 연결됐지만 문전 앞에서 시도한 그의 슈팅이 너무 뜨고 말았다. 

42분: 가나의 존 멘사가 동점골이나 다름 없는 절호의 기회를 놓쳤다. 코너에서 올라온 크로스가 그의 머리를 맞고 골대로 빨려 들어가는 듯 했지만 지다의 다리를 맞고 나왔다. 브라질에 행운이 따른 순간이었다. 
 
45+1분: 절체절명의 실점 위기를 넘긴 브라질이 가나의 취약한 오프사이드 트랩을 무너뜨리며 점수차를 벌렸다. 카푸가 오른쪽으로 쇄도하며 문전으로 강한 크로스를 날리자 아드리아누가 손쉽게 무릎으로 추가골을 만들었다. (2-0) 

킹슨의 선방 
57분: 호나우지뉴의 스루패스가 호베르투 카를루스에게 연결되자 브라질 선수들이 문전으로 쇄도하는 가운데 슈팅을 날렸지만 킹슨이 다리로 막아냈다. 

68분: 지다가 몸을 던지며 기안의 날카로운 땅볼 슈팅을 걷어내려다 놓치자 매슈 아모아가 재차 슈팅하기 위해 뛰어들었지만 이미 공은 브라질 골키퍼의 품에 안긴 뒤였다. 게다가 언제라도 오프사이드 깃발이 올라갈 수 있는 상황이었다. 

79분: 경고 누적으로 이전 경기에서 출장하지 못했던 모데나 소속 공격수 기안이 다시 한 번 중거리 슈팅을 시도했지만 지다의 정면이었다. 

81분: 기안이 두 번째 옐로 카드를 받고 퇴장당했다. 
 
84분: 브라질이 두 골로 앞서고 있는 상황에 만족한 듯 수비 진영에서 공을 돌리자 도르트문트의 관중석에서 야유가 쏟아졌다. 하지만 브라질은 세 번째 골을 터뜨리며 FIFA 월드컵 챔피언의 면모를 과시했다. 가나의 최종 수비 라인을 파고드는 히카르지뉴의 재치 있는 패스를 받은 제 호베르투가 골키퍼 킹슨마저 제치고 여유 있게 문전으로 드리블하다 텅 빈 골문에 공을 밀어 넣었다. (3-0). 

88분: 호나우두의 강력한 땅볼 슈팅을 킹슨이 오른손으로 쳐냈다. 2분 뒤 킹슨은 같은 상황에서 카푸의 슈팅마저 선방했다. 

93+분: 킹슨이 다시 한 번 히카르지뉴의 힐패스를 받은 주앙의 슈팅을 멋지게 막아냈다. 

결론:가나가 기대했던 극적인 이변은 일어나지 않았다. 가나는 자국 사상 처음으로 치른 FIFA 월드컵 본선에서 16강에 진출하는 데 만족해야 했다. 대다수의 예상대로 브라질은 준준결승에 진출해서 스페인과 프랑스 간의 경기 승자와 토요일 저녁 프랑크푸르트에서 준결승을 다투게 됐다. (FIFAworldcup.com 2006년 06월 27일) 
 
브라질, 8강 합류 

브라질과 프랑스가 2006 독일월드컵에서 비어 있던 8강 대진표의 짝을 맞췄다. 

삼바 군단 브라질은 28일(이하 한국시간) 도르트문트 월드컵경기장에서 열린 16강전에서 호나우두, 아드리아누, 제 호베르투의 연속골로 '아프리카의  유일한 돌풍' 가나를 3-0으로 완파했다. 

이번 대회에서 세번째골을 터뜨린 호나우두는 월드컵 통산 15골을 넣으며 게르트 뮐러(독일.14골)의 종전 최다골 기록을 넘어섰다. 

프랑스는 하노버 월드컵경기장에서 열린 스페인과 경기에서 전반 페널티킥으로 선제골을 내줬지만 프랑크 리베리, 파트리크 비에라,  지네딘 지단의 골이 터지며   3-1의 역전승을 거뒀다. 

이로써 이번 대회 우승컵의 향방은 독일-아르헨티나, 이탈리아-우크라이나,  잉글랜드-포르투갈, 브라질- 프랑스 간 8강 대결로 압축됐다. 

브라질 3-0 가나 
 
'매직 4중주' 호나우두, 호나우지뉴, 아드리아누, 카카의 '초정밀 역습'이 전반에 딱 두 차례 가나의 수비벽을 궤멸했고 그 때마다 골이 터져 승부를 갈랐다. 

초반 너무 쉽게 선제골이 터졌다. 주인공은 월드컵 역사의 한 페이지를 새로 쓴 호나우두였다. 

호나우두는 전반 5분 카카가 전방으로 '킬 패스'를 찔러주자 오프사이드 트랩을 뚫고 골문으로 돌진했다. 골키퍼 리처드 킹스턴이 막아서자 육중한 몸을 좌우로  흔드는 페인팅으로 최후의 방어막까지 뚫었다. 

반격에 나선 가나가 숨가쁘게 공세를 폈지만 전반 인저리타임 1분 루시우- 카푸- 카카- 카푸- 아드리아누로 연결되는 환상적인 그림이 나왔다. 

카푸와 카카의 2대1 패스에 이어 오른쪽 측면에서 카푸의 크로스가 올라왔고 골문에 쇄도한 아드리아누의 무릎에 맞은 볼은 네트를 갈랐다. 

후반 39분 다시 가나의 오프사이드 트랩이 무너졌고 순간적으로 적진을  돌파한 제 호베르투가 완벽한 단독 찬스에서 골키퍼까지 제치고 쐐기골을 뽑았다. 

패기와 개인기, 유연성으로 무장한 가나는 점유율과 슈팅 수에서 앞섰지만 마무리가 거칠었다. 경고 누적으로 빠진 '중원의 핵' 마이클 에시엔의 공백이 컸다. (연합뉴스) 

DORTMUND, Germany (AP) - Ronaldo broke free early, flashed past Ghana's flailing goalkeeper and poked the ball into the net. 

With one swift move in the fifth minute Tuesday, the superstar striker overtook German Gerd Mueller as the greatest scorer in World Cup history, spoiled Ghana's scrappy debut and put defending champion Brazil into its fourth straight quarterfinals. 
"I want to continue to increase the record," Ronaldo said, "but without forgetting that the main goal in the World Cup is winning the title." 

Brazil had to work for its 3-0 win over the Black Stars, who pressured enough to create chances but kept shooting either just off the mark or well within reach of goalkeeper Dida. 

"Today's game was as we expected," Brazil coach Carlos Alberto Parreira said. "It wasn't easy and we knew it wasn't going to be easy, 3-0 seems easy, but it wasn't." 

The Brazilians used long, penetrating passes to build each of its goals, but Ronaldo's tournament-record 15th was the only one it would need. With its 11th straight tournament win, Brazil took another step toward a fourth straight World Cup finals, and next faces France in a rematch of the 1998 final. 

"The big guys are coming to the quarterfinals," Parreira said. "It is getting closer and closer. It's getting tougher and tougher." 

On the counterattack, Kaka sent a second long pass up the heart of the field to an unmarked Ronaldo, who touched the ball once toward Richard Kingson, then sent the goalkeeper flailing with a brilliant stepover move. Ronaldo cut left, and with a defender closing, popped the ball into the net. 

Ronaldo said he never intended to break the World Cup scoring record - it came to him. 

"It was never my goal, it just happened match after match," he said. "This is the result of lots of work, lots of sacrifice." 

Mueller scored his 14 goals over 13 games in the 1970 and 1974 World Cups; Ronaldo has played 18 games in the past three tournaments. 

Ronaldo performed poorly in Brazil's first two matches against Croatia and Australia, when the Real Madrid striker was held scoreless and substituted for twice. He was also bothered by a weight controversy and a string of minor health problems. 

One minute into first-half injury time, Adriano added to Brazil's lead in a breakaway set up by a through ball, using his left thigh to nudge a waist-high cross from Cafu into the net. Replays showed Adriano appeared to be offside when he touched the ball in, and fans booed the replay. 

The third goal also came when a long pass sprang a Brazilian one-on-one against Kingson. Midfielder Ze Roberto received the ball and flicked it over the keeper, who left his box and tried to make a save with his head. Safely past, Ze Roberto jogged the ball in alone. 

Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic said he was thrown out of the game at halftime for complaining to the referee as they walked in the tunnel, and did not coach the second half. When asked about what happened, Dujkovic said he told the referee "that it would be better for us if he put a yellow jersey on." 

After the game, Dujkovic said he believed the Black Stars of Ghana would be back. 

"They (Ghanaians) faced a great team, the world champions, they are the best in competition, defending champions," Dujkovic said. "It is not a shame to lose to Brazil." 

Ghana bounced back quickly from the early goal, pushing forward and pressuring Brazil. Though the Ghanaians had more scoring chances and outshot the Brazilians 25-21, Dida shut them out with a solid performance. 

Black Stars striker Matthew Amoah had two good chances in the 24th, first missing a pass from Draman, then shooting wide of the net from the top of the penalty area. Asamoah Gyan came close in the 35th, sending a shot from inside the area over the crossbar, and again in the 69th, when his shot from near the penalty spot was saved. 

Dida also stopped Gyan's 79th-minute shot from inside the area. 

John Mensah had one of the match's best opportunities with a close-range header in the 42nd, but Dida made a great save with his right leg. 

Ghana was physical from the beginning, picking up four yellow cards in the first half and two others in the second. 

Gyan was sent off in the 81st for diving, his second yellow. His expulsion extended the World Cup record for red cards to 25. 

While Brazil is seeking a record sixth title, Ghana was trying to become only the third African team to reach the quarterfinals of the World Cup. Senegal did it in 2002 and Cameroon made it in 1990. No African team has reached the semifinals. 

Ghana finished second to three-time champion Italy in Group E, which also included the United States and the Czech Republic. 

Brazil came into the match boosted by a convincing 4-1 win over Japan, when Parreira fielded five reserve players to rest some starters. The regulars were recalled for Tuesday's match, though many in Brazil wanted Parreira to keep playing some of the second stringers who performed well against Japan. 

But this far into the tournament, Parreira went back to his starters, and back after sitting out Thursday were defenders Roberto Carlos and Cafu; midfielders Emerson and Ze Roberto; and striker Adriano. Cicinho, Gilberto, Gilberto Silva and Juninho, meanwhile, returned to the bench. 

"History doesn't talk about the beautiful game, it talks about champions," Parreira said. "We like to play beautifully and if we can, we will. ... We have five world championships under our belly and we want to make it six."
