`영원한 우승후보' 아르헨티나가 아프리카의  복병 코트디부아르를 꺾고 독일월드컵 16강 진출에 청신호를 밝혔다. 

아르헨티나는 11일 오전(이하 한국시간) 함부르크 월드컵경기장에서 열린  독일월드컵 C조 조별리그 1차전에서 에르난 크레스포(첼시)의 선제골과 하비에르 사비올라(비야레알)의 추가골로 디디에 드로그바(첼시)가 한 골을 만회한  코트디부아르를 2-1로 제압했다. 

2002년 한.일 월드컵 당시 잉글랜드, 스웨덴 등과 `죽음의 조'에 속해 조별리그에서 탈락했던 아르헨티나는 이번에도 네덜란드, 세르비아 등과 함께 2개 대회 연속 죽음에 조에 속했지만 승점 3점을 먼저 챙기며 2라운드에 한 발 먼저 다가섰다. 

아르헨티나는 후안 소린(비야레알)-가브리엘 에인세(맨유)-로베르토  아얄라(발렌시아)-니콜라스 부르디소(인터 밀란) 포백이 철벽 수비벽을 구축한 뒤 공격형  미드필더 후안 리켈메(비야레알)가 위협적인 프리킥, 코너킥과 정교한 전진 패스를 사비올라와 크레스포 투톱에게 찔러주며 공격 실마리를 풀어나갔다. 

아르헨티나는 전반 2분 리켈메가 오른쪽에서 올린 코너킥을 아얄라가  헤딩슛했지만 상대 골키퍼가 잡아냈다. 당시 볼은 골문 안쪽으로 들어간 것처럼 보였지만 부심은 골을 선언하지 않았다. 

하지만 아르헨티나는 공세를 계속해 전반 24분 리켈메가 왼쪽 미드필드에서  올린 프리킥 크로스가 골문 앞 혼전으로 흐르자 크레스포가 오른발로 살짝 차 넣어 골문을 갈랐다. 

선제골을 허용한 코트디부아르는 반격에 나섰지만 운이 따르지 않았다. 전반 31분 드로그바가 골지역 왼쪽에서 슈팅을 때렸지만 수비수 몸에 맞았고 전반 35분에는 드로그바가 골문 오른쪽에서 헤딩으로 크로스한 것을 카데르 케이타(릴)가 다시  헤딩슛했지만 골키퍼 정면이었다. 

수차례 공세를 막아낸 아르헨티나는 다시 주도권을 찾아왔고 사비올라가 추가골을 성공시키며 승부에 쐐기를 박았다. 사비올라는 전반 38분 리켈메가 찔러준  킬패스를 페널티지역 가운데에서 이어받은 뒤 달려나오는 골키퍼 옆으로 살짝 차 넣었다. 

후반들어 코트디부아르는 계속 골문을 두드렸지만 아르헨티나의 골문은  좀처럼 열리지 않았으며 경기 종료를 얼마 남겨두지 않고 드로그바가 한  골을  따라가는데 그쳤다. 

드로그바는 후반 37분 페널티지역 왼쪽에서 올라온 크로스를 골문 앞에서  왼발로 때려 넣어 한 골을 따라가는데 만족해야 했다. 

코트디부아르는 잉글랜드 프리미어리그 듀오인 드로그바와 콜로 투레(아스날)를 앞세워 사상 처음으로 월드컵 본선에 진출해 아프리카 돌풍 재현에  나섰지만  이날 패배로 앞으로 남은 네덜란드, 세르비아와 조별리그 경기에 부담이 커지게 됐다.

HAMBURG, Germany (AP) - Still haunted by the last World Cup, Argentina really needed this victory. And a determined Ivory Coast team made the two-time Cup winners work for it. 

Hernan Crespo and Javier Saviola took advantage of some shaky defense to score first-half goals, and the Argentines hung on for a 2-1 victory Saturday night in the first game of what many think is the tournament's toughest group. 

"It was savage," Crespo said. "We were nervous, so much wanting to do things well. This is the first step." 

Didier Drogba, a key to Chelsea's consecutive English Premier League titles, got Ivory Coast's goal in the 82nd minute. After he just missed a header, the ball was cut back in front, and Drogba converted a left-footed shot for his 24th goal in 33 international appearances. 

Argentina, whistled at by the crowd of 49,480 for its delaying tactics, won its fourth straight World Cup opener and next plays Serbia-Montenegro on Friday, when Ivory Coast meets the Netherlands. The Dutch face Serbia in their Group C opener on Sunday. 

Argentina fans in blue-and-white-striped shirts filled the other corner of the stadium and brought along drums for some extra noise. Dressed in an Argentina jersey and watching from stands was Diego Maradona, who led his country to the 1986 title. 

"This is a young Argentina team," coach Jose Pekerman said. "Many are playing their first World Cup, and a debut like this is going to give them confidence." 

Ivory Coast, which got past African power Cameroon to qualify for the first time, was dressed in bright orange jerseys, and so were its fans. The supporters serenade the team with "When the Elephants dance, it's the ground that suffers" after wins, but they didn't have much to sing about. 

"I think maybe we deserve something better than what happened tonight, but Argentina's players were very good," Drogba said. "They played very well, and I think they scored when they had to score. That was the difference between them and us. We had a lot of chances, but we were unlucky to not score." 

At the 2002 tournament in Japan, Argentina beat Nigeria, lost to England and tied Sweden, its worst performance since failing to qualify for the 1970 tournament. Players were ridiculed back home, where newspapers took a photo of the team's defensive wall and superimposed handbags draped on the players' arms. 

"We haven't achieved anything yet," Argentina captain Juan Pablo Sorin said. "But it was key to start in this way with three points." 

Ivory Coast outshot the South Americans 13-9, with Drogba getting off four shots alone, and Argentina was whistled offsides six times to none for the Africans. 

Argentina nearly went ahead in the 14th minute, when Roberto Ayala had a powerful header from about 10 yards off Juan Ramon Riquelme's corner kick. The ball bounced off the hands of goalkeeper Jean-Jacques Tizie, ricocheted against his right goalpost, then came back at least partially - and maybe completely over the line. Tizie, his back to the field, bobbled it before gathering it in, and Argentine players argued after Belgian referee Frank De Bleeckere failed to signal a goal. 

"It would have been a lot easier if that had counted," Crespo said. 

Crespo, Drogba's Chelsea teammate, scored in the 24th off a free kick by Riquelme. The ball bounced off a leaping Drogba and bounced into the penalty area, where Crespo kicked it in from 5 yards for his 30th goal in 56 international appearances. Drogba argued to no avail he had been fouled by Gabriel Heinze. 

Saviola is known as "El Conejo" ("The Rabbit") and he used a quick move to score in the 38th. Breaking behind the defense to receive Riquelme's through ball, Saviola was challenged as Tizie came out, and he slotted the ball in from just to the left of the penalty spot for his 10th international goal. 

Kader Keita had Ivory Coast's best chance in the first half, a point-blank header in the 35th minute from 6 yards after a flick header by Drogba, but goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri stopped it. 

"In the game, there was not much difference between the two teams," the Elephants' Bonaventure Kalou said, "but I think experience made the difference."

It was the first World Cup match at the venue since June 22, 1974, when East Germany upset West Germany 1-0 on Juergen Sparwasser's 77th-minute goal in a politically charged first-round game before 60,350 at the old Volksparkstadion. The stadium, now known as AOL Arena, was rebuilt at a cost of about $100 million while the local team Hamburger SV played at it, and it reopened in September 2000. ... Lionel Messi, Argentina's rising 18-year-old star who plays for European club champion Barcelona, didn't even get into this game, which featured entertaining, end-to-end action. 
 

네덜란드는 11일 밤(한국시간) 라이프치히 첸트랄슈타디온에서 벌어진 2006독일월드컵 C조 세르비아 몬테네그로와의 조별예선 첫경기에서 전반 18분 터진 로벤의 선취골을 끝까지 지켜 1-0으로 승리했다. 승점 3점을 챙긴 네덜란드는 이로써 전날 코트디부아르를 2-1로 꺾은 아르헨티나에 이어 조 2위에 오르며 16강 진출을 위한 유리한 고지에 올랐다. 

로벤을 위한 로벤에 의한 경기였다. 로벤은 가벼운 몸놀림으로 세계 최고 수준이라던 세르비아 몬테네그로 수비진을 농락했다. 네덜란드는 로벤과 루드 반 니스텔루이, 로빈 반 페르시의 스리톱을 앞세워 전반 초반부터 활발한 공격을 펼쳤다. 반면 세르비아 몬테네그로는 마테야 케즈만과 사보 밀로셰비치 투톱이 문전에서 자주 겹치는 등 위력이 떨어졌고 수비진도 네덜란드의 빠른 공격을 차단하지 못하며 답답한 경기를 펼쳤다. 

네덜란드는 전반 18분 이날의 영웅 로벤의 첫 골로 승기를 잡았다. 하프라인 근처에서 반 페르시가 로벤을 향해 날카로운 논스톱 침투 패스를 연결했다. 상대 오프사이드 라인을 완벽히 허문 로벤은 빠른 스피드로 문전을 향해 돌파를 시도했고 골키퍼와 1:1로 맞서는 절호의 득점 기회를 잡았다. 로벤은 침착한 왼발 땅볼슛으로 골네트를 흔들며 경기장을 오렌지색 물결로 뒤덮은 메운 네덜란드 팬들을 열광시켰다. 

한 골을 먼저 내준 세르비아는 전반 43분 오그넨 코로만을 투입했고 후반에는 밀로셰비치와 케즈만 투톱을 모두 교체하며 승부수를 던졌다. 하지만 공격의 날카로움이 현저히 떨어졌고 경기가 풀리지 않자 과격한 플레이를 펼쳐 경고만 4장을 받으며 힘없이 무너졌다. 

반면 네덜란드는 후반에도 로벤과 반 페르시의 빠른 발을 이용한 날카로운 역습으로 수차례 세르비아 문전을 위협했다. 특히 로벤은 후반 33분과 44분에도 골문을 살짝 벗어나는 날카로운 슈팅을 날리는 등 최고의 활약을 펼치며 경기 MVP로 선정되기도 했다. 결국 경기는 1-0 네덜란드의 승리로 끝났고 네덜란드는 귀중한 승점 3점을 챙겼다. 

원맨쇼 펼친 `마법사' 로번 

(서울=연합뉴스)`왼발 드리블의 달인' 아르연 로번(22.첼시)이 `오렌지 군단' 네덜란드를 `죽음의 조'에서 구해냈다. 

11일 밤 라이프치히의 젠트랄 스타디움에서 열린 네덜란드와 세르비아-몬트네그로 간 C조 조별리그 첫 경기. 

양팀은 8년 만에 월드컵 본선 무대를 밟은데다 남미의 강호 아르헨티나,  검은 돌풍의 코트디부아르와 한 조에 편성돼 이번 대회 최악의 대진으로 분류됐다. 

특히 지난 1998년 프랑스 월드컵 4위를 하고도 `4강 저주'에 발목을 잡혀  2002 한.일 월드컵에 나가지 못했던 네덜란드는 이번 대회에서 실추된 명예 회복을  벼르고 있었다. 

하지만 조별리그 첫 상대인 세르비아는 월드컵 유럽 예선 10경기에서  6승4무의무패 행진에 단 1실점의 견고한 방패로 무장해 승부가 쉽지 않아 보였다. 

네덜란드도 예선 12경기에서 10승2무의 좋은 성적을 올리며 27골을 몰아치는 막강한  공격력을 뽐냈지만 세르비아의 방패를 뚫을 수 있을지는 미지수였다. 

초반 빅매치로 꼽힌 이날 경기의 구세주는 천부적인 골 감각의  최전방  공격수 뤼트 판 니스텔루이(맨체스터 유나이티드)가 아닌 왼쪽 윙포워드 로번이었다. 

유연한 몸 동작과 신기에 가까운 드리블, 순간 스피드를 이용한 강한 슈팅 등 3박자를 두루 갖춘 로번은 90분 내내 그라운드를 종횡무진 누비는 매직쇼를 펼쳤다. 

로번의 진가가 가장 빛난 것은  전반 18분. 

경기 초반부터 빠른 왼쪽 돌파로 세르비아의 허점을 파고들던 로번은 센터 서클 부근에서 수비수의 키를 살짝 넘겨준 로빈 판 페르시의 패스를 이어받아 10ｍ를  쇄도한 뒤 골키퍼를 피해 왼발로 살짝 밀어넣어 감각적인 선제골을 뽑았다. 

로빈의 활약은 여기서 그치지 않았다. 

기선을 제압하는 첫 골을 터뜨린 5분 후에는 왼쪽 사이드에서 왼발로 대포알 같은 강한 슛을 날렸다. 골키퍼 드라고슬라브 예브리치의 선방에 막혔지만 수비수들의 간담을 서늘하게 하기에 충분했다. 

로번은 이후에도 판 페르시와 포지션을 바꿔가며 오른쪽으로 파고 들어  날렵한 드리블과 예기치 않은 슛으로 상대 문전을 쉴 새 없이 두드렸다. 

네덜란드의 전체 슈팅 12개 중 절반이 로번의 발끝에서 나왔고 유효 슈팅도 3개로 영양가도 높았다. 후반 23분 교체된 니스텔로이를 압도하기에 부족함이 없었다. 

또 후반 막판에는 왼쪽 사이드에서 공을 몰고 가다 상대 반칙을 유도하는  재치 있는 플레이까지 선보이며 팀 승리의 일등공신이 됐다. 

이날 경기 최우수선수로 선정된 로번은 "점점 힘들어진다는 걸 알고 있었다. 가장 중요한 건 이겼다는 사실이다. 컨디션 회복에 만전을 기하겠다"며 남은 코트디부아르, 아르헨티나전을 대비해 긴장을 늦추지 않겠다는 의지를 드러냈다.

LEIPZIG, Germany (AP) - The orange fans ruled the stands, their players the field. 

The Netherlands relied on the lightning speed of winger Arjen Robben for a 1-0 win over Serbia-Montenegro on Sunday to join favorite Argentina at the top of Group C, considered the toughest of the first round. 

Instead of using the counterattack as it promised, Serbia-Montenegro was caught by it. In a clockwork move in the 18th minute, Mark van Bommel fed a long pass to Robin van Persie near midfield. The winger delicately lobbed it over the defense toward Robben. 

No one could match his quickness, and despite some desperate tugging at his shirt, Robben coolly slipped the ball under goalkeeper Dragoslav Jevric in the 18th minute. 

It was all the Dutch fans needed to start a party, and half the crowd at the 43,000-capacity Zentral Stadion was filled with orange, the color of the Dutch team's shirts. The celebrations lasted the rest of the game - and certainly would go deep into the evening. 

The Netherlands won a 1-0 World Cup game for the first time. 

"This is a very important victory," said Dutch midfielder Phillip Cocu. "Especially since the Argentines won, too." 

The South Americans are the other favorites in the group and beat Ivory Coast 2-1 on Saturday. 

It was a bitter blow for Serbia, which dominated the opening moments, but badly let down, for once, on its vaunted defense. Its defenders were caught completely flatfooted on Robben's decisive goal. 

"We make one mistake and we are punished for it," said Serbia-Montenegro coach Ilija Petkovic. 

The Netherlands, one of the few nations playing a 4-3-3 alignment at the World Cup, kept its attack open through its excellent wingers and quickly regrouped once the Serbs had the ball. At times, wingers Van Persie and Robben just switched sides to dumbfound the opposition. 

Serbia-Montenegro picked a very defensive lineup and had to switch tactics early on. In the end, it failed to match the individual class of the Dutch forward line. 

The Dutch defense, often considered the weak link in the lineup, held together until the end under the leadership of Andre Ooijer and Joris Mathijsen. Even though Serbia-Montenegro kept threatening, it failed to get a goal, and it next faces Argentina, while the Netherlands plays Ivory Coast on Friday. 

Petkovic was without defender Nemanja Vidic because of suspension. Savo Milosevic made his 99th international appearance Sunday, but was replaced at halftime after a disappointing performance.
