The Jokhang (dà zhāo sì 大昭寺), also called the Qokang, Jokang, Jokhang Temple, Jokhang Monastery or Tsuklakang, is the first Buddhist temple in Tibet (xī zàng 西藏), located on Barkhor Square (bā kuò jiē 八廓街) in Lhasa (lā sà 拉萨). It was built during the reign of King Songsten Gampo (sōng zàn gān bù 松赞干布) (605?-650 CE) to celebrate his marriage with Chinese princess Wencheng (wén chéng 文成) ofTang Dynasty (táng cháo 唐朝) who was a Buddhist. The temple was called the Tsulag Khang or 'House of Wisdom' but it is now known as the Jokhang which means the 'House of the Buddha'.
