The Ming Palace (míng gù gōng 明故宫), built in 1366, is located in the east of Nanjing city. It is the imperial palace of the Ming dynasty’s emperors of three generations in succession, Hong Wu (hóng wǔ 洪武), Jian Wen (jiàn wén 建文) and Yong Le (yǒng lè 永乐). The majestic Ming Dynasty Imperial Palace, which was once regarded as a blueprint for the Forbidden City (gù gōng 故宫) in Beijing, is composed of the Imperial City (huáng chéng 皇城) and the Palace City (gōng chéng 宫城).
