샌디에이고 파드리스 - PETCO Park

The natural stone and stucco exterior and lovely landscaping, including the Park at the Park beyond the outfield fence, make this the garden spot of baseball, with a relaxed yet dynamic atmosphere that reflects the San Diego lifestyle.

Concourses are spacious, open and airy. Signature towers and terraces offer panoramic views of the Bay, the downtown skyline, Balboa Park and the mountains on the horizon of America’s Finest City. Fans are lower and closer to the action than at Qualcomm Stadium. The playing field is asymmetrical, with dimensions and charming features that accentuate traditional baseball values.

The seating bowl is divided into distinctive "neighborhoods." All 42,000 fixed seats are comfortable, with cup-holders and extra leg room. Seats down the lines are angled to the infield. The two upper levels are built on extended cantilevers, with the front of the Terrace Level only 34 feet above the field, creating a sense of intimacy reminiscent of the great old ballparks.

The handsome and historic Western Metal Supply Company Building has been renovated and incorporated into the Ballpark, with the left-field foul pole attached to its southeastern corner, 334 feet from home plate. The 98-year-old structure houses the Padres Team Store on the first floor, with a door opening onto a standing room area in left field. The second and third floors feature festive Party Suites. A restaurant on the fourth floor provides terrace dining with superb views of the field. There is bleacher seating and standing room on the roof, 80 feet above the field.

Located at the hub of the regional transportation system, with easy access by car, Trolley, the Coaster, bus and future water taxis, the Ballpark has ample parking and inviting promenades to and from your vehicle or public transit.

2004년 4월에 개장한 펫코파크는 캘리포니아주 샌디에이고의 중심에 있다. 부지와 건축비를 포함해서 약 4억 5천 7백만달러의 천문학적인 액수가 소요되었으며 최대 4만 6000명의 관중을 수용시킬 수 있다. 이곳의 소유권은 샌디에이고시가 70%, MLB 소속 프로야구팀 샌디에이고 파드리스(San Diego Padres)가 30%를 가지고 있다. 샌디에이고 파드리스가 홈구장으로 사용하고 있다.

경기가 침체된 중심 시가지에 다시 활력을 불어 넣으려는 샌디에이고시의 정책에 따라 다운타운에 세워지게 되었다. 경기장 안에서는 고층 건물들 사이로 햐얀 요트들이 질서있게 선박해 있는 샌디에이고의 항구가 서쪽으로 보인다. 건물은 스페인 건축 양식을 본딴 빨간 벽돌로 지어져서 바깥쪽으로는 종려수, 안으로는 초록색 관중석이 함께 어우러진다.

펫코파크의 부지 위에는 100년 이상 된 서부금속회사(Western Metal Supply Company)의 빌딩이 있었다. 이 빌딩은 낡고 오래되어, 원래 펫코파크를 짓기 전에 철거하기로 결정이 났지만, 역사가 오래된 건물을 보존하자는 샌디에이고시의 요청에 따라서 펫코파크의 설계도가 수정되었다. 그래서 서부금속회사의 건물은 리모델링되어 지금은 야구장에 딸린 가게와 호텔, 레스토랑 등으로 사용되고 있으며, 또 이 건물의 경기장 쪽 귀퉁이는 왼쪽 파울 라인으로 쓰이고 있다. 건물의 간판 또한 떼어내지 않아서 경기장 안에서 쉽게 찾을 수 있다. 옛것과 새것이 함께 조화를 이루는 좋은 예라고 할 수 있다.

외야쪽에 위치한 경사진 잔디 공원은 '공원 속의 공원(The Park at the Park)'이라고 불리며 야구팬들이 싼값으로 경기를 관람할 수 있는 장소이다. 경기가 없는 날은 공원으로 쓸 수 있게 무료로 개방된다. MLBNLWest
