    Chapter 1 
     
    1-5 The faith, love, and patience of the Thessalonians, are evident tokens of their election which was manifested in the power with which the gospel came to them.
    6-10 Its powerful and exemplary effects upon their hearts and lives.
     

    Chapter 2 

    1-12 The apostle reminds the Thessalonians of his preaching and behaviour.
    13-16 And of their receiving the gospel as the word of God.
    17-20 His joy on their account.
     

    Chapter 3 

    1-5 The apostle sent Timothy to establish and comfort the Thessalonians
    6-10 He rejoiced at the good tidings of their faith and love.
    11-13 And for their increase in grace.
     

    Chapter 4 

    E1-8 xhortations to purity and holiness.
    9-12 To brotherly love, peaceable behaviour, and diligence.
    13-18 Not to sorrow unduly for the death of godly relations and friends, considering the glorious resurrection of their bodies at Christ's second coming.
     

    Chapter 5 

    1-11 The apostle exhorts to be always ready for the coming of Christ to judgment, which will be with suddenness and surprise.
    12-22 He directs to several particular duties.
    23-28 And concludes with prayer, greetings, and a blessing.
