박찬호는 15일 오전(이하 한국시간) 미국 조지아주 터너필드에서 벌어진 애틀랜타 브레이브스와 원정 경기에 선발로 나섰으나 5이닝 동안 홈런 1개 포함, 안타 7개를 맞고 4점을 내줬고 4-4로 맞선 6회부터 클레이 헨슬리로 교체됐다. 

투구수는 98개, 스트라이크는 62개였다. 최고구속은 151Km. 그러나 7안타 중 5개가 2루타 이상의 장타였을 정도로 공에 힘이 없었다. 

승패 없이 물러난 박찬호는 방어율만 3.86에서 5.59로 나빠졌다. 박찬호는 두 번의 불펜 등판을 합쳐 이날까지 9⅔이닝을 던졌다. 

왼 어깨 부상 중인 숀 에스테스가 부상자명단에 오르면서 선발에 진입한 박찬호는 이날 강한 인상을 남기지 못하면서 다시 불펜으로 내려갈 처지에 몰렸다. 5선발 경쟁자인 우디 윌리엄스는 지난 12일 플로리다전에서 선발승을 거둬 박찬호에 비해 한 발 앞선 상황이다. 

박찬호는 1회부터 빠른 볼과 변화구가 모두 높게 몰리면서 고전했다. 직구는 스트라이크존을 벗어났고 변화구 각도는 밋밋해 노련미로 근근히 버텼다. 

첫 타자 마커스 자일스를 우익수 뜬공으로 잡아내며 산뜻하게 출발한 박찬호는그러나 2번 에드거 렌테리아에게 변화구(134Km)를 던졌다가 좌측 펜스를 넘어가는솔로포를 얻어맞았다. 

이어 2사 후 앤드루 존스와 8구까지 가는 접전을 벌였으나 역시 134Km짜리 변화구가 높게 제구되면서 좌월 2루타를 맞았다. 추가 실점 위기에서 박찬호는 좌타자애덤 라로시를 몸쪽 낙차 큰 슬러브(130Km)로 헛스윙 삼진으로 돌려세우며 급한 불을 껐다. 

2회를 실점 없이 넘긴 박찬호는 3회 1사 후 렌테리아에게 역시 변화구를 던져 우전 안타를 내준 뒤 후속 좌타자 랭거한스에게 우선상을 흐르는 총알 같은 2루타를 맞고 다시 한 점을 허용했다. 

앤드루 존스를 포수 앞 땅볼로 잡아 한숨을 돌렸지만 라로시 타석에서 불운이 겹쳤다. 

박찬호는 라로시에게 고집스럽게 몸쪽으로 떨어지는 슬러브를 뿌렸는데 5구째 공이 라로시의 발을 맞고 포수 피아자의 몸을 튕긴 뒤 타자 옆쪽으로 흘렀지만 구심척 메리웨더가 이를 보지 못하는 사이 3루 주자 랭거한스가 홈을 파고 들어 3점째를실점했다. 

명백한 사구(死球)였지만 판정은 번복되지 않았고 결국 박찬호의 폭투로 기록됐다. 

4회에는 선두 제프 프랑코에제 좌전안타, 브라이언 매켄에게 우선상 2루타를 연속으로 내줘 다시 1점을 줬다. 

샌디에이고는 1-2로 뒤진 4회 비니 카스티야, 마크 벨혼의 연속 2루타와 데이브로버츠의 중전 안타 등으로 3점을 뽑아 박찬호에게 승리 요건을 안겼으나 정작 박찬호는 애틀랜타의 불방망이를 견디지 못하고 동점을 허용한 채 마운드를 내려왔다. 

애틀랜타는 8회 제프 프랑코어의 좌월 결승 솔로포를 앞세워 5-4로 이겼다.

The Atlanta Braves can't seem to shake their early-season pitching woes. 

Tim Hudson will look to earn Atlanta's rotation its first win of the season when the Braves open a three-game series with the San Diego Padres Friday at Turner Field. 

Starter Kyle Davies was pounded for six earned runs and nine hits, including four homers, in just 4 2-3 innings of Thursday's 7-6 loss to the Philadelphia's Phillies. Atlanta's starters fell to 0-5 with an 8.59 ERA -- the first time the Braves have gone 10 games without a starter earning a victory since 1988. 

"When you give the other team five runs in the first five hitters, obviously for the team it's an uphill battle the rest of the way," Davies said. "We fought back. We just didn't have enough time." 
 
The Braves have won 14 straight division titles, largely on the strength of their pitching. They never had an ERA higher than 4.10 and finished in the top three in the league 13 times in 15 years under pitching coach Leo Mazzone, who left for Baltimore during the offseason and was replaced by Roger McDowell. 

Hudson has been shaky in his first two outings, going 0-1 with a 12.38 ERA. He gave up eight runs, six earned, and eight hits in four innings of Saturday's 12-6 loss to the San Francisco Giants. 

"I didn't have real good stuff," said Hudson, who lasted at least five innings in all but three of his 29 starts last season. "That's the bottom line and they took advantage of it." 

Hudson is 2-2 with a 3.25 ERA in four career starts against the Phillies. Each of those outings came last season, his first in the National League after six seasons in Oakland. 

"I feel great," Hudson said. "There's nothing to point your finger at. It's just a matter of making better pitches." 

Hudson will face San Diego's Chan Ho Park, who is making his first start of the season after going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in two relief appearances. Park allowed two earned runs and six hits in three innings out of the bullpen in the Padres' 10-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, but did not factor in the decision. 

The Korean right-hander is 5-3 with a 5.35 ERA in 14 career appearances, including 12 starts, against the Braves -- his worst ERA against any NL team. 

The Padres (3-5) won two of three against Florida, but dropped the series finale 9-2 on Thursday. Vinny Castilla and starter Dewon Brazelton each drove in runs for San Diego, which was swept at home in three games by Colorado heading into the Florida series. 

The Braves have dropped four of their last five. Jeff Francoeur, who entered the game hitting just .081, hit two homers and singled on Thursday. 

"I gotta say it just felt good to hit a ball solidly," Francoeur said. "I just felt comfortable tonight. Just letting it kind of work its way out, seeing it and swinging at it." 

Edgar Renteria's first-inning single gave him a 10-game hitting streak, the longest active streak in the major leagues.
