2 Kings 01: Canaan Baalism

"Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?"

The English rendering of "Baal-zebub," from the Hebrew term meaning the lord of the flies, or as some translations have it, the lord of dung, was a major Philistine idol of Ekron (see Where Is Palestine? and What Does The Bible Really Say About Canaanites?). It was a devil-worship religion that involved some of the most vile, Satanic rituals imaginable - including cannibalism. Although the English word "cannibalism" originated from a Spanish word used by explorers only a few centuries ago, it's a fitting coincidence (if it is just a coincidence) that "Canaan Baalism" and cannibalism are very similar.

The Greek form of the Hebrew Baal-zebub is Beelzebub, or Beelzebul - a name used by the Messiah (as it is rendered into English, from the Greek of the New Testament, that was used to record the actual Hebrew and Aramaic; see The Syrian Tongue Of Jesus) in reference to Satan. In an blasphemous accusation that is going to come back on them on the Judgment Day, some of the Pharisees (not Nicodemus; see What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16?), who actually knew that Jesus Christ was from God (i.e. 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him." John 3:1-2 KJV), nevertheless wickedly blasphemed the Messiah in public in an attempt to turn the people away from following Him.

"12:22 Then was brought unto him one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb: and he healed him, insomuch that the blind and dumb both spake and saw. 12:23 And all the people were amazed, and said, Is not this the son of David?

12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.

12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand: 12:26 And if Satan cast out Satan, he is divided against himself; how shall then his kingdom stand? 12:27 And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your children cast them out? therefore they shall be your judges. 12:28 But if I cast out devils by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God is come unto you." (Matthew 12:22-28 KJV)

The Israelites deeply involved themselves in the heathen Satanic religions of the land. Most of their kings, including even Solomon (see What Caused Solomon's Idolatry?), became involved in such idol worship - while arrogantly ignoring the LORD (Who was and is Jesus Christ - see Genesis 1: In The Beginning Was The Word and The Kingdom Of The LORD God).

"1:1 Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. 1:2 And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease." (2 Kings 1:1-2 KJV)

Most of the ministry of the prophet Elijah was to fight the idolatry in Israel (see Elijah's Defeat Of The Prophets Of Baal). King Ahaziah (see Ahaziah Of Israel and Kings of Israel and Judah) was rebuked with "Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?"

"1:3 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? 1:4 Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

1:5 And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?

1:6 And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

1:7 And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?

1:8 And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins.

And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite." (2 Kings 1:3-8 KJV)

As happened very often, the truly patriotic prophets of the LORD (to the LORD's prophets, "patriotism" wasn't just a "politically-correct" mind control word for the blinded followers of a self-worshipping regime to parrot to one another) were regarded as enemies of the state for declaring the Word of God to their corrupt regime. Elijah was often given to face the forces of a human government while in his service to the Kingdom of God (see also The Battle Of The End-Time Prophets).

"1:9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

1:10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

1:11 Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

1:12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

1:13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight. 1:14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight." (1 Kings 1:9-14 KJV)

Very few of the corrupt "leaders" (in this present corrupted world, a word that has become one of the most perverted from its true meaning; see the Fact Finder question below) heeded the warning from the LORD.

"1:15 And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.

1:16 And he said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron, is it not because there is no God in Israel to enquire of his word? therefore thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. 1:17 So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken.

And Jehoram reigned in his stead in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah; because he had no son. 1:18 Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?" (1 Kings 1:15-18 KJV)
