Psalm 114: The Dominion Of God

"The Kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the Kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High, whose Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey Him"

Jacob, who the LORD (see The Identity Of The LORD God) renamed as Israel (see The Origin Of Israelites And Jews), knew that the ultimate ruler of "Israel" (which itself was created as a living prophecy of the coming Kingdom of God) would be of the tribe of Judah (see Jacob's Prophecy To Israel).

"49:8 Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee. 49:9 Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? 49:10 The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be." (Genesis 49:8-10 KJV)

The Scriptures are filled with the prophecies of the Messiah's coming dominion - not merely of a country or an empire, but of the entire world (see The Holy Mountain Prophecy) and the universe ("heaven") that He created (see The Christian Universe).

"72:2 He shall judge thy people with righteousness, and thy poor with judgment. 72:3 The mountains shall bring peace to the people, and the little hills, by righteousness. 72:4 He shall judge the poor of the people, he shall save the children of the needy, and shall break in pieces the oppressor. 72:5 They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. 72:6 He shall come down like rain upon the mown grass: as showers that water the earth. 72:7 In his days shall the righteous flourish; and abundance of peace so long as the moon endureth. 72:8 He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth." (Psalm 72:2-8 KJV)

The Messiah is moreover a political leader, not a "religious" leader. The purpose of the "church" is for people to learn how to become native-born citizens of the Kingdom of God (see The Patriotism Prophecy and the Fact Finder question below).

"19:11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. 19:12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. 19:13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. 19:14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS." (Revelation 19:11-16 KJV)

The Messiah provides the means by which citizens of the Kingdom of God will be "born again" (see What Was The Lesson Of John 3:16? and The Christian Day Of Atonement: Past, Present and Future).

"1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood [see Why Blood?], even the forgiveness of sins: 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence." (Colossians 1:14-18 KJV)

The prophet Daniel was given to see the Kingdom of God long before Christ's first coming (the reason that the term The Ancient of Days was used).

"7:13 I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

7:14 And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed." (Daniel 7:13-14 KJV)

The purpose of those who will be in the first resurrection (see Those Who Will Awake Early; also Could Christ Return Tonight?) is to serve the LORD God as the world is transformed into the Kingdom of God beginning on the day of Christ's return. They, along with those who will be granted salvation later, will serve God forever thereafter.

"7:27 And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him." (Daniel 7:27 KJV)

"1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." (Revelation 1:6-7 KJV)

The righteous people of ancient Israel knew that their kingdom was a living prophecy of the LORD's Kingdom to come (i.e. see What Did King David Really Say About Zion?). They also knew that the Messiah would come from the line of Judah.

"114:1 When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; 114:2 Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.

114:3 The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. 114:4 The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.

114:5 What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? 114:6 Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?

114:7 Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; 114:8 Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters." (Psalm 114:1-8 KJV)
