뜻:벨이 왕을 보호함

바벨론어로 벨살우술(Belsar-usur)이다.
갈대아 사람의 왕조 곧 새 바벨론 왕조의 최후의 왕이다(단05:1, 17, 18).
바벨론의 비문에 보면 나보니도스 B.C. 550-539의 장자로 되어있다.
그는 왕이라고 불리지 않고 왕의 아들이라고 불리웠다.
성서에는 느부갓네살의 아들로 되어있으나 (단 5:11-13) 

그것은 그의 어머니가 느부갓네살 의 딸이었기 때문인듯 하다.


========Paintings Belshazzar


Belshazzar, according to The Book of Daniel 5:1-2, was the descendant and successor of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, the conqueror of Jerusalem. One night Belshazzar made a feast for a thousand of his lords and served them wine from the holy vessels, which his father had taken out of the Temple in Jerusalem. In answer to this sacrilege, a disembodied hand suddenly appeared writing mysterious words on the wall. Only Daniel could read them and told that the words predicted Belshazzar뭩 overthrow. That very night Belshazzar was slain (The Book of Daniel 5:30). 


Historically Belshazzar was actually the son of Nabonidus, the third ruler after Nebuchadnessar. 


(단05:1-2, 벨사살왕이 그 귀인 일천명을 위하여 큰 잔치를 배설하고 그 일천명 앞에서 술을 마시니라 벨사살이 술을 마실 때에 명하여 그 부친 느부갓네살이 예루살렘 전에서 취하여 온 금, 은 기명을 가져오게 하였으니 이는 왕과 귀인들과 왕후들과 빈궁들이 다 그것으로 마시려 함이었더라 


(단05:30그날 밤에 갈대아왕 벨사살이 죽임을 당하였고
